Maybe it's just me, but Verge 1, 2 (and ika) are a lot more effort to use than I remember, for results that don't seem that impressive anymore.

Sorry about this, I've got too used to forums that have an "edit post" function.
I think Verge has lost sight of it's original aim along the way. It was supposed to be a way to make RPG's, but now I'm not sure what it is. I think Vecna may have been onto something with that port of Verge 1 to Windows.

But v1's design is still poop. ^_^
My intent with ika is to be the best of V1 and V2 simultaneously by filling the gap between the two with packin-code fun. Nobody's using it, though, despite being right around where V1's systems were. Kinda depressing. :(

I took a look, but locating exactly the correct tools to use it correctly is a pain in the derierre, frankly. The inclusion of proper 8-way scrolling was something I wanted in V1 for a very long time though, and it's great to see it happen in Ika finally,
Sully was probably one of V1's biggest advantages, providing as it did a source of music, art and code examples, at the same time as being an entertaining game. That and the unbelieveable simplicity of putting together a demo.

Anyone who actually wants to make a game can use any one of the zillion apps flying around since verge first came out. The problem with verge is that we're all oldbies and don't make games because the novelty has worn off or do other things now. If you want the verge or ike community or whatever to be like v1 used to be, just make ONE build of a good solid engine and try to sell that to a public of new people. Newbies today won't be happy with something like ika as it is now probably. You'd have to have 3D support or something to reel them in.

Neverwinter Nights springs to mind as an excellent example of the current state of the art in Roleplaying games.
