First of all, I would like to know if someone is currently working on Maped3, so I can contact him about it.

I've started at last working on Maped3, trying, in first place to make it Mono-compilant ,so there's a map editing tool for every VERGE-developement platform (Windows, PC & Mac)

I started trying to make all code "safe" and as managed as possible. After a copule of hour of work I successfully changed the ZLib decompresser to ZLib.Net, but I still have problems uncompressing

Also, I started to port the graphic functions, trying to get rid of all the C++ code and heavy pointer usage... It may have a little (I hope) impact in performance, but nothing that bad. At least I can read 24-bit VSPs with no noticeable slowdown.

Also, I think the UI need a redesign, using less unnecesary custom controls. Should I make it from scratch and reuse the rest of the code, or just change the necessary library code??

I don't believe anyone's actively working on it.

However, I think it's in the SVN.

However-however, the SVN hasn't been made public yet since the move.

However-however-however, I can easily do that tonight.

Yes, Maped3 needs to be made to work for mac/linux users and needs to be improved greatly. I fully endorse and/or beg anyone interested in doing so. The mac/linux people need dev tools so they can join in for-reals!

Overkill

Maped3 is in the SVN, but its project dependencies, such as pr2-common, render, and zlib.net are not included, thus making it hard (read: impossible) to compile.

I don't know the status of the current SVN, but the revision adderd posted (marked as Rev115) includes the dependencies (Whom I'm trying to get rid off), and compiles perfectly, making it a good way to check the new (managed code) libraries...

Oh, I forgot to mention, I completed the ZLib change, right now works completely in C#, one dependency eliminated ^^

I experimented a little, and looking at the current developement of Mono's Windows Forms implementation, it would be impossible to port for now.
But I still think the migration to managed code would be useful, so today I started cleaning up (and commenting, for Sully's sake!) the code, starting form the Input and Output routines (that I'm gonna include in their correspondant classes, mimicking Microsoft's way of creating managed libraries) the current code doesn't make use of any of the advantages C# could give it, excepting Windows Forms.

When it's all clean, I'll start implementing the new useful features we all want to see.

Well, I think that's all.
Adiosito, nos vemos pronto!

Do you have commit rights? If you're commenting and cleaning, that should definitly be shared.

Would you like the rights?

Nope, I don't have them and haven't asked for them yet....
I was pushing it a little to have a little more work done... But now I think that removing 6 unnecesary files, changing one dependency, cleaning the first source file... Yep, I should commit it xD

Well, please, grue, give me rights

Yes, someone please update maped3. I'm having to use maped 2 to make maps. Here is a screenshot of a forest tileset I am working on.

Those are some purdy screenshots.

Also, up until my most recent tilesets, I made my art in maped2 and imported them into maped3 to do the obs and zones, too. These days I make my tiles in photoshop straight-up, though.

Loachim, any idea of when you are going to update MapEd3? I've actually been paying attention to this thread...and was looking forward to seeing an updated version in the next typical VERGE development output cycle... (You know, like a decade or so?)

Thanks for the compliments. I've just recently been getting back into the art side of things. Never really thought about using a Photoshop-esque program for tiles. That really sounds like a good idea. I'm excited at the possibilities of using a broader color palette as well. I'll see what I can whip up.

Here go a couple of new shots for a game called Enemy Grounds a friend and I are working on...

Here is a shot of a Mario graphical remake I was just messing around with:

Unless these changes are committed soon (read: within the next few hours), there may be conflicts, as I will likely be submitting changes, as I have picked MapEd back up to salvage some of the code and fix some bugs, for another project I'm working on.
