Scheme - is basically Lua, but

  • without all the syntactic sugar - easier to generate
  • with arrays
  • with full re-entrant continuations

This project has been inactive for a long time. If anyone is interested in continuing this, I have code that works with circa-Dec-05 verge that parses (almost?) all VC using flex/yacc/treecc, converts it to Lua, and runs it.

As for your suggestion: I like scheme, but I think Lua would be more friendly for, say, error messages. Also, scheme is so scary looking, no one would ever want to use a 3rd party scheme library like might be possible with Lua.
