I've got a demo of CoolEdit (older version) that lets me do mostly everything (I have to pick one or two features from a list at the time, though), but I was wondering about some more recent or feature-packed.
You know, kinda like a GIMP for sound, or something. Anybody have any favorite free sound utilities?

Sound Recorder for the win! ...Honestly, I don't make a lot of sound effects. I usually just rip them from things. But when I do, I use Sound Recorder! Heh.

I just found this: Wavepad Audio Editing Software
It looks like it might not suck, but I haven't tried it yet or anything.

Audition is where it's at. Or SoundForge. Oh wait, good free sound tools? lol.
Seriously though, talk to me on IRC and I can get you Audition.

Ah, well...I'll look up Audition, and thanks for the tip, but I think I'll be okay without the software myself. It's for a friend. If I get an urge to have it though, I'll let you know.

Audacity?? It's a little bit bulky to use for little sound files, maybe, but it's _free_, after all. Also, I have a CDROM for a SB16, and Creative Wave Studio's all right. Maybe you could get it off of Creative's site, still. ... ... ... You didn't hear it from me.

I second the vote for Audacity. It's a very good sound editor, and it's Free. Like yhnmzwcs (???) said, it's a little big, but it does do its job very, very well.

Third (or fourth?) vote for Audacity. It's 0wNz.
The WAV-MP3 conversion/compression feature also comes real handy sometimes,

Definitely get Audacity. It's not as featureful as Adobe Audition but it has the freeness, for those of you who are squeamish about acquiring Audition from your uncle Juarez in Mexico.
