Had one somewhere at one point.
May still be on the desktop computer. I don't think I've deleted anything out of there.

Well, it's about 11:30 where I am right now, and my parents have gone to bed. The desktop computer being virtually right next to their bedroom, I'll check in the morning. Like I said, I only think that I have it--I know I've downloaded it before, but I'm not 100% sure it's in my archive file.

El... Didnt you make it...?
Of course, Rage backed up all our old games, and then erased the disks they were on for no real reason. Trust me, you'll want the crappy old games you made later on! They are fun to look at!

I do remember Legend of the Shiny Objects being an impressive demo.
It was the first Verge demo I downloaded, around the time I was searching for an RPG Maker four years ago...
Granted, it crashed like all-get-out on my then-Pentium 90, but by editing the user.cfg it would run. That doesn't mean the battle system fit the screen, but getting to watch the transitions and the textbox and menus was pretty neat.
I thought to myself: this Verge stuff is pretty neat.

I dug up a bunch of my old QBasic stuff recently - some of it is solid gold. If solid gold comes in poo shaped chunks.

yeah I remember being completly dumbfounded by the code of that game and I'd love to look at it again and be able to understand it. and it was a damn nice piece of work

I did contribute a small portion of the code, but it was like 98% Lord Fruitiger's. I was pretty proud of the work I did though (namely the random innkeep conversation generator), and would like to have it back. Somehow I remember fondly the hours we spent insisting that the party follow system should work perfectly.
One thing I've learned is: dusty apartments, cigarette smoke, and crap-ass compaqs don't mix as well as Tanqueray, tonic, and lime wedges, yet both combinations seem to get me pissed!

[Edit: The second paragraph was intended to explain how I lost LotBSO, though my lack of proper segway might make it seem to speak of my present state of mind, which it sadly does not.]

The Lord only knows. Heh...
Probably met some nice, yet charmingly zany girl, and is off somewhere making Little Shiny Objects.
Either that or is held captive in some jungle somewhere being tortured by Greenpeace activists by being forced to listen to Micheal Bolton records or something. Damn hippies can't take a joke.

LotBSO is the SOLE demo/game/whatever that taught me how to code in VC. It was because of LF and El! that I am able to do ANYTHING in verge at all. That is why you'll find a lot of their "little" functions in my code. I really owe you guys a lot ;_;
But, I too lost it in the great "stupid fskcing virus forcing me to reformat before owning a CDR" of 2000. :P
Also worth a mention is that I remember seeing LF drop by the ika boards a few months ago, though I can't remember exactly when.

All right, bad news. No trace of BSO on my new (read: four year old) desktop computer.
More bad news: My old desktop computer, which I originally downloaded Verge stuff on, was wiped about...two years ago by yours truly (I was trying to reinstall Windows on one hard drive and indirectly helped format the other one).
Some news: When I first discovered Verge I burnt my friends a lot of sampler CDs of anything Verge and remotely cool looking that I could find. Then again, I doubt they have these CDs anymore...
Possibly Good News: I might know of someone/where we can get that demo. Gimme five minutes...maybe half an hour if I get breakfast.
To be continued...

Okay...
Can anyone get in contact with Clepto1766? I don't know if that's his real V-RPG username, but that's what he was known as on V-Net when he posted his Verge Archive site.
That site has gone done--and I in particular failed to grab anything extra from it--but he had tons and tons of demos. I'll bet he's got LotBSO.
If anybody can get in touch with him, I'd say go for it. And maybe we can "preserve" some of those games he's got.
Unfortunately, V-Net doesn't have his email, and when the VA opened back in August 2002, he says on the V-Net news that V-RPG had an update about him, but I can't find it.
That's as much as I know. Off to breakfast.

Ha, seems like LotBSO taught a lot of us new tricks with VC. I certainly learned a lot from that code as well...
You can find the tech demo here(the one with the battle system is version 2), along with several other oldschool demos:
http://www.verge-rpg.com/~gmw/
Good luck running it though. It's done in DOS Verge2 ;)

I remember Nihilism13's Lunar-style battle system modeled after Hahn's battle system mock-up. That was one of the coolest ones back then.
