To while away the hours until V3's packaged release with its full suite of utilities for kicking ass and copying names to the clipboard, I thought it might be fun to sponsor a

Community Art Challenge!

*fanfare*

This weeks challenge is to create icons for V3's features and functionality including MapEd, TileEd, V3's executable and MapEd features like Add tile/Remove Tile, Move Up/Down, Properties, and any imaginary functions you'd like to see.

Since this is a challenge there are some restrictions:
The icons should be square (256x256, 64x64) but keep in mind that MapEd buttons should look good at 32x32 and would look best drawn to size. Windows icons can be up to 256x256 and windows will resize them automatically, but will most often be seen at 32x32 and 16x16. Colors are unlimited for executables and 32 for buttons.

If your icons kick total ass, they might be used for the actual program, and that secures you an avatar!!

Keep in mind, you don't have to do a full set, you can just do the ones you want, but a full set is more likely to be incorporated.

To kick things off, here's the icon I made for Maped3 for V2:

Is there a time limit for this challenge? Not exactly free these couple of days.. :D

Posted on 2004-03-22 00:38:47

Tatzen

Not really. Just be aware that the longer you wait the more likely it is someone else will make the final product!

"Is there a time limit for this challenge? Not exactly free these couple of days.. :D"

If we can stir up some dust on this first Challenge, there may be more in the future on a weekly basis ranging from sprites, animation, to code and music.

Kinda like mini-HoVs.

Do the icons have to be in .ico format? I have nothing that can create this, as my icon editor expired.

chanman

can the icons have an alpha layer?

Posted on 2004-03-22 03:58:43

Tatzen

The windows icons can. I would not recommend this for the realtime buttons and such, tho.

Yay, I'll give this a shot. Icon designing is fun.

[Overkill]"Do the icons have to be in .ico format? I have nothing that can create this, as my icon editor expired."

Nah, you can post them here in gif format, but you can just rename any .bmp to .ico and it'll work for practical purposes.

Also, great work Ratgash

Okay I'm done unless people want more, because I really like Ratgash's.
