Starting Sunday I will be holding two one-hour game competitions. No boring waiting for judges, no inhibiting special rules, no engine limitations, just let your mind go nuts for an hour and submit when the time's up.
Competition One: Sunday, October 9, 1:00 - 2:00 PM EDT.
Break Period.
Competition Two: Sunday, October 9, 7:00 - 8:00 PM EDT.
Waste an hour (or two) of your life this weekend, join #crappygamezxplosion on irc.esper.net and submit your creations when the hour is up! I'm the host, but no judges are necessary for this competition, just try your hardest to pull something awesome in a single hour. Note that it's preferrable if you work on something completely different for each competition.
Anyway, there you have it, everyone. Anything goes, not just Verge3.

Does it have to be on IRC?
Can the gfx and music be premade?
Can we use old code?

Sounds like anything is fair game, and it sounds suspisciously ;like the intent is just to get some shiney new demos out there :D
For a one hour compo though, I don't think conversations via message board are quite going to cut it, so I think IRC is probably a wise choice.
Personally, I suspect my own night-shift job will get in the way of me participating in the compo, but I'm determined to get something _anything_, no matter how poor, released soon, because it occurs to me that in my many many MANY years of fiddling with Verge, I've yet to actually make anything public.

Nope, it doesn't have to be IRC. But IRC has an advantage of actually seeing the other competitors you want to defeat and making sure you submit (close to) the ending time. And IRC allows people to DCC me their files which is a lot faster to retreive things. I guess you could email me! overkill9999 AT gmail DOTCAWM.
The graphics and music can be premade. The code can be old code. However, you'll be much cooler if you complete something from almost scratch!

I'd like to watch the action, but I won't have internet then! Anyway, I wanted to post something funny I just noticed. I'm in a computer lab, and all of the computers are the little sub-desktop-sized kind (Dells, btw). The optical drives are vertical, and the open side of the tray faces AWAY from the user! I just thought that it was funny.
I guess that few people use optical disks in the lab, or there'd be complaining.
Assess my new sig.

This reminds me of the spontaneous two hours of ika compo we did back in the day. It produced the widely celebrated classics BUTTER, the Stupid Game, and the epic Guess that Number.

I recall the Stupid Game being utterly brilliant as well as being an excellent subliminal social commentary on contemporary society.
EDIT: Italics added for emphasis

The eXtreme Plankton Adventure is available.
Bug Fixes:
1.01 - Fixed a problem that occurs when plankton combine and become smaller.
Edit: And it's triumphant, different, but equally crappy, sequel: Plankton Adventure 2

Code, you're on the CIF at UoR? I was on CoRE at SUNY Binghamton (which is linked on your http://cif.rochester.edu/about/ page but is presently having server issues).

Oh, no way! I'm actually not on CIF, I just have a web hosting account with them. And even though I graduated in May, they don't seem to mind me still using their webspace. Lucky me!

Surely that wasn't the only entry?

Yeah, that's all that happens. It was supposed to be kind of an action/puzzle game where you're given an objective like get 100 red points, destroy all green, etc... that you have to complete in a time limit. But an hour and a half just wasn't enough time.
All of the good/playable games are on Overkill's site.

Ah, now it makes more sense. Yeah, that'd be pretty fun.
Actually, for an hour's work, that's pretty damn impressive.
