Hey guys,

So I was working on a FF2-style framework in V3 about a year ago, made a lot of progress, then dropped off the face of the earth. I had a baby, found a new job which required a cross-country move involving the purchase of a house and a big fat loan-against-our-cars, LOST that job the first day after arriving (Grrrrr), then have scrambled to get life back to some semblance of survivable.

Now my situation has improved a bit - everything's basically back under control, I'm programming at a wonderful company, playing World of Warcraft and working on a webcomic (http://www.acornswrath.com) in my spare time. Which brought me back here... It would take me a bit to get back into the swing of what I was doing, but I was wondering if anyone was interested in that engine if I was able to finish it? To see what I'm talking about, check out:

Let me know if you guys would be interested in this - I don't want to put all that work in if it's just for me.

Thanks!

Well... I know at least two people who'd like to make FF4 prequel/sequel projects, so yeah... there might be an audience.

It looks like good work! What's left to be implemented? Did you stay painstakingly true to the tech analysis from years and years back? (no big deal if not, I wouldn't either. Console programmers do very weird things in the name of efficiency.)

Hehehe, I'm not sure... I just was going for:

1) The look/feel of FF2 and
2) Keeping things skeletal so that it could be used as a framework for creating multiple games of that type.

I had most of the battle system worked out, something like 80% of the inventory/weapons/armor/magic/etc stuff done, about 50% of the in-game menus (including the save/load game) created. I think there were a few minor problems I was having, but nothing that haulted the project or would stop me from completing it... Having a baby was enough to do that (lol). So what I'll need to do is sit down with that code and refamiliarize myself with what I did and how I did it so I can continue and finish it.

I would definitely love to PLAY FF4 prequel/sequel projects, so I'll go back and keep working on the engine/framework. When I manage to finish it, my fee will be that people make good games with it FF4-style ;P

I have an idea for a prequel myself. This would be set in the days of Kluya and Zemus. What would make this game interesting is that it would be set on the destroyed planet, and possibly other places in the solar system, and feature a highly advanced civilization.

I have started on an FF2/FF4j project too, but your's looks SOO MUCH more functional... ;_;

Ugh. This makes me sad. And happy, in a "YES, it's POSSIBLE" way. I'm thoroughly interested.

I am proficient in pixel art, and more recently, tracking. Thus, I get caught up doing art so much, I forget about the coding. And then, I look back, and I realize, "WTF was I thinking?"
*sigh*
If Sully's engine isn't cool enough, I'll beg you for your's. ;D < /lazy>

If it has items and a workable combat engine, I'd be interested too. I've got stuff in my head that I'd like to get into a VERGE game, but I don't think I have the patience these days to create a whole engine from scratch, though I'd probably go more for a cyberpunk look than a Final Fantasy IV one.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
