No, I haven't. It's probably just one of the many problems unique to me, if nobody else has mentioned it.
If God exists, this clearly confirms he has a special kind of hell reserved for you, Alex: it involves childrens' TV presenters, the pop band Vanilla and the London Underground.

I've tried all the battle systems, and SnowScape is the one that impressed me the most. It's very unique, and the ritual combinations are just awesome. Also, it is graphically impressive with a beautiful map and great sprite/effect art. At the moment though, it is not very challenging, because I could just hide behind trees/houses and blast enemies away from a safe distance ;)
I thought the Funky Fight was pretty fun, and it was kind of like a DDR battle system :P I couldn't get past the second guy though because the difficulty rose by ten fold. ;)
The Lufia-esque battle system shows lots of potential(I'm guessing that the Roric enemy was inspired by Roric from Dragon Warrior IV?), as does the Dragon Warrior/Earthbound battle system. Oh, and the Tabu battle system looked cool as an Ultima battle system clone.

Glad you liked Snowscape rpgking. The AI is something I am pestering Rage about constantly, but as I think I said somewhere before, trying to get good realtime AI is a HUGE pain. Just look at Buckerman's system. It takes several seconds for the AI to move around, becuase they are doing A* pathfinding. With the amount of enemies we have onscreen, either you are going to need a computer like Vecna's (Athlon 64 3000+) or you are going to need a faster pathfinding algorithm. Expect improvements in the future. Also right now there is pretty much no balance, owing to the fact that MP has yet to be implemented and that a good thrid of those spells were made in the last hour or two of the HoV o_O
Also, I didnt make Funky Fight, but since I did the music I can tell you that it really isn't that difficult. Honestly just keep pressing right over and over again. If you are hurting really bad, press down. As long as you are semi coordinated (I'm young, maybe I have an advantage) it should be fairly easy.
Thanks for the compliments, glad you enjoyed all the entries. Are you going to enter the next compo? Use the lufia system to finish Leo!

Good idea on using the Lufia-like system for Leo, if I ever decide to work on it again. ;) If there is another HOV, and I'm actually around at the time, then I'll most likely enter.
And is it really wise to use A* pathfinding for every enemy? Did games like Diablo do this?

There should be another HoV sometime in the next few days or so. And it will probably last a couple weeks at least, giving you plenty of time to finish up Leo. I'll help any way I can, as well. As for the A*... I think Diablo used nodes, but I'll let Rage answer that.

I dont know what diablo did but I can tell you that if you optimize the system enough it would be fine. I've optimized my Astar as much as I'm willing but compared to the pathfinding demo I used as reference, mine is still very very slow. I'm not sure if my own code is to blame or verge.
I was playing with an Astar simulator that included 3 sprites. 1 was controlled by mouse clicks and the other 2 tried to find the 1st sprite. The slowest I could ever get it to find a path was 10ms, but generally you couldent even get it to take more than 0 ms to find the path.
so in short, yes it would be fine normally but if you were going to do it in verge you need to find a way to improve mine or use a system of long distance nodes and short distance nodes.
I'm not by anymeans trying to dis verge, I'm just saying it's not as fast as c++, which is understandable.
Also in snowScape, I'm not using true A* for pathfinding. Instead I'm using a slight variation that goes much faster at the cost of a longer path, but even then it can easily be slow =/

(Somewhat offtopic, I apologize...)
You know, Troupe, you've been sounding awfully informed about the state of the HoV and what not... it's getting a little... suspicious, you might say...
Let's take off this mask and see who Troupe REALLY is!

Troupe pesters me daily about the HoV. He's also been trying to coyly manipulate my judgement, which he thankfully stopped once I said I'd already made them. ;)

The pestering I admit to. Manipulation, no sir! I wanted to make some clarifications. I didn't mean to influence your judgement in any way! You think I am capable of any coy endeavors? HAH!

Sure sure... you may not have consciously intended it, but your posits and argument was clearly designed to get and try me to look favorably on 512's entry.
It's an easy thing to do. Don't worry about it, I'm too jaded to not notice it, nor to care about it... much. It did amuse me, though. ;)

Hahah, you are a good man, McGrue. I guess it was a concious intent, but it wasn't meant to be coy or anything. I was just trying to point it out. I didn't want you look favorably on 512's entry, I just wanted people (read: you) to understand what we did and why we did and so on.
PS:
FAIR is the keyword I am going for here.

Yes, you may want to... reconsider, if you get my meaning. After all, it wouldn't be fair if I cut Gayo's legs into bloody stumps. Err... shit.
