Is there a place for a Javascript Verge?

Just wondering... Or the JS game engines are already dominating the web scene?

This would be a total Verge port (maps, tilesets, chars, mod/s3m/xm, engine) with some extra goodies.

Looks like Grue and some others are working on a javascript/node version of maped: https://github.com/mcgrue/maped4

Something like this has certainly crossed my mind. The question I wrestle with is, what is Verge's place at this point? Is there anything we could do as an engine that isn't already solved, and better, by another engine?

It might be cool to see Verge games natively playable on the browser. That's about it though.

ALSO HI

OMG HI

What you describe is almost exactly what I keep talking myself out of making. :/ I've got too many other things on the go.

Maped4's currently only supporting a json-based format that the Breadbrothers RPG engine (unnamed, thinking "Monovalve" if I want to get sued?) supports. I plan on opening up that engine after Sully is shipped, but nothing else natively supports maped4's format.

Also Of note!
Aen's making javascript-native importers for ALL v1, v2, and v3 file formats currently. Because he's cool.

I may as well toss in that I'm working on a project that may end up being a freely available engine as well, and I suspect that it will either consume the same format as Maped4, or Maped4 will support the format for that engine.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
