Aye, game-reviews would really lighten up the community. Question is, how long will Grue make us wait for it? I say we, carrying protective goggles for our eyes' security, kidnap Grue when he's taking his annual shower and make him code this while we threaten to kill his favorite teddy bear.

Yes... I am the personifaction of evil. It's almost too evil for me to mess with people's favorite teddy bears, but this if for the greater good of the Verge community.

I really think that we can do this ourselves. We can set up a separate page that doesn't really need to follow the layout of the Verge-rpg website. Might lack consistency, but that's a little issue compared to the large benefits it should bring.

I THRIVE on consistency!

It would work better as part of the main website. We really need v-rpg.com to stand as a centerpiece to the VERGE community: sticking reviews here are where they'd get the most use and benefit as many people as possible.

Besides, breaking the whole process of making a reviews system down, it'd be a variant of the documentation system plus the file submission system rolled into one. Now how hard could that be to do? ... Somebody?

we just need a good slashdotting:P

If someone were to post this succesfully on slashdot, it might create a rather large influx of traffix for a few hours, during which sh!telowds o' people would be exposed

but then again, would we want the slashdot crowd;)

We've actually been slashdotted before, but we weren't cool enough to hold anyone's interest at the time, and I'm not sure we are yet either. I think VERGE needs to be a bit awesomer before publicizing itself aggressively.

You seem to be mis-informed as to how hard it is to maintain such beautiful hair.

I thought the secret to your hair was just like mine. :( I thought we were hair buddies.

Also, surely more than Grue could campaign for Verge, it doesn't all rest on him. I'm talking about additional site features. If people want to make verge affiliated sites with reviews and what not, that's probably awesome. I've pondered the idea, grab a few guys, I'll code a PHP-driven site where you have people submitting reviews of different games.

I've also pondered helping on the verge repository. Right now, I'm working mostly on my game, but I'll try to think up stuff.

Right, time to get that ball rolling: someone work on a reviews system and I'll fill it with some detailed reviews. Meanwhile, I'll begin work on a beginner's tile art tutorial. To WORK!

Incidentally: the articles section. When will everyone be able to actually SUBMIT articles to it? It seems that I can only view stuff, no "add library" v3-documentation-funkiness. Will it get integrated into the "V3 Documentation!" stuff or what? And yes, Aen's old tutorials need taking down, as they're gonna confuse the heck out of newbies. "V2, WTF?!"

Omni

Not before I archive them for my resources page.

Hey! You've only got 3 of Aen's tutorials? What happened to the other four?

I will (try to) work on a portraits tutorial. I will also be releasing all my Diver Down portrait art to the public some time after I get them from Gren.

I'm now working on a full-blown "Beginners' Guide." It'll only cover the basics but it should be highly useful to newbies. Yay!

I added a large section on V3 operators to the docs here. Anyone is welcome to transplant it into a tutorial if it might be useful -- I remember it took me quite a while to learn all the operators when I began using V2, since I had no experience with C or Java.

hey, i'm not a member of this site, but i thought that this would help

http://www.clickisland.com

everyone here should check out this site, as it has a nice clean layout, which is extremely user friendly, everything is easily noticible

and about the noobs going to a database for help, i dont think that is a good idea, as everyone has their own problems, and need to be helped individually, to allow maximum growth of knowledge in using any program

going to a database, is meant for general issues, and not designed for individual issues, and if it were to be created with answers to almost every answer possible, that would take up an enormus amount of space, as well as creating a search problem, as there will be too many things to search through, and if everything were to be entered into one post, that would be too much to search through, as well as to read, and how many of you would like to read page after page of help topics just to find the right topic? didnt think so, which is why individual help is the best option, to help newcomers, where in business, do you see people doing everything on their own? nowhere, and people who create their own businesses, have had help, even though they say they have not, that is a lie, because where would you get the money, and land to create a building for business, from other people, you buy land, you hire designers, and builders, is that not help?

mainly everything should be user friendly(very important in designing any site), which will help both new comers, as well as experienced users

when i found this site, i had to do a lot of reading, and searching to be able to find this topic, as things are not easily accessible, because even though things may not be hidden, they seem as if they are

tip for the administrators: too many designs like all the horizantal likes, arent user friendly, they hide important links, topics, posts, etc, keeps things clean and simple, for maximum performance, sure they look nice and all (in my opnion, they look horrible) but they dont help with the site layout at all

take this information into serious consideration, as it will decide the future of this site's community, both size, and involvement

take care, and choose decisions/actions wisely

I don't know what the Teams link is for and it should prolly be taken out.

The site design as it was planned (and is still planned as far as I know) has the Teams link set up so that people's little groups (Pi R Squared for instance) could have subareas of the site that is their own to run. The Games area is supposed to be the same sort of thing. Basically it's like sourceforge projects. This then tied in to the forums by having team and game forums as well as medals and all kinds of other shit.

Needless to say grue does not want to put a lot of time into frilly stuff when he could be taking webcam pictures of his shoulder kitten.

dear anonymous poster,
thank you for your input it does have a point or two. We shall choose wisely as you have asked us to, but that's what we normally do.

thank you for your input.

Yeah. Um. Clickisland is even more cluttered than this one. Sorry.

It has an okay layout. The sidebar pops out immediately. But it took me a while to notice the top-right toolbar.
