Version 0.4 is out, and I'm taking a break from game design for a week to work on my taxes (which are quite complicated when you work in a foreign country) and my application to grad school. I will, of course, be around to address any problems that may come up and I would love to hear any feedback.
Here's Kambou version 0.4:

Updated to version 0.4.1. I was informed of two errors, one of which was me being stupid (I forgot to include system.xvc in the zip) and the other was verge being stupid IMHO. Verge can't read/write files in a pack?? Why on earth not? I don't want people hexediting their save.
There are two files available on the site -- you can download the whole thing again, at which point the game should work correctly -- or you can download system.xvc, which, if you add it to the v0.4 directory, will let you play the game, but not save.

Be warned that packfiles offer no serious defense against cheating even aside from the unwritability! It's a pretty simple matter to pull a packfile into its individual components since no encryption is applied. We could probably stand to have an encrypted packfile format and some functions to facilitate save encryption, but that's not much of a priority.

Hey, finally just played this game. It's actually quite fun! The whole riddle-word-combo thing is especially cool, and I can see this being pretty useful trying to learn kanji.
Of course, then I died in the kitchen battle and realized I'd forgotten to save. Woo!
Anyway, good job, Ikimasho! I'm interested to see how this progresses.

Hey, thanks Kildorf.
I've been considering putting a warning on that kitchen battle. I made the computer and the weight room intentionally easy to ease the learning curve. Funny how FFT got away with not doing that.
Glad you had fun!
