Hello, I am making a new game called Kardashev Unus: Ortus Peona. I have no website yet. The official storyline description (which I will use a lot) is below:

As people look back over the 21st century, they can see a golden era of civilization. Humanity is expanding civilization into the space around Earth. They have built industries and cities in the seas, in orbit, on the Moon, on Near Earth asteroids and comets, and are starting to expand it to Mars. Over the 21st century, various technologies have advanced and proliferated, including information technology, nanotechnology, robotics, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence. This has led to a luminous renaissance of science, the arts, human rights, the intellect, spirituality, living standards, quality of life, and environmental repair.

But now, human civilization is entering its darkest hour. There are those who wish to use these new technologies and sciences to oppress, enslave, and murder others. There are those who are hostile to technology and knowledge, and wish to create a new Dark Age, or worse. And on top of it all, the Earth is rapidly descending into a new ice age. What will become of human civilization? Will 6000 years of civilization and progress crash into a new stone age? Or will civilization survive and thrive, extending the reach of civilization and life throughout space, and explore new frontiers of knowledge, spirit, creativity, experience, and existence?

I have made only two maps so far, pictures below.

The picture above is a hallway at Cynthia University, which is the largest college on the Moon.

This is a picture of the starting map for the game.

More info later.

Here is the main character Desiree. She moved to the Moon when she was three. She is going to Cynthia University (the pictures you see in the above post), which is in the Eagle Settlement (which is where the first Apollo Moon landing in 1969 was) on the Moon.

Important

Looks cool. What does the name mean?

Overkill

My one minute of research tells me this: Kardashev refers to the Kardashev scale, which measures the usable energy a civilization has. Unus, is the Latin for for "one", so I'd say this refers to the "Type I" civilization on the Kardashev scale. Is this a fancy way of refering to Earth?

Don't know about Ortus, but Poena means "pain" or "penalty" in Latin.

Aw. I was hoping it was a pony :(

"Ortus" seems to refer to a rising or a rebirth.

Yep.

Still not a pony.

Very good guys!

Kardashev Unus is planned to be a series of RPGs that chronicle the future history of human expansion through the solar system. So it will take place between when human civilization has reached Type I and Type II status. But keep in mind that not everyone agrees on what a Type I civilization is. Some think that we are in it today, while others think it will take a few hundred years (if you take the "using all of Earth's energetic output" literally).

Ortus Peona is supposed to be "birth pains." People talk about how we are killing Gaia. But some others say that Gaia is merely pregnant, and needs to reproduce. So there is an ideological component to the game. The main message is that technology and civilization is good, should continue, and should spread out. And the "ice age" is a part of it, forcing many humans to move to other worlds in the solar system.

This will somehow lead directly to the second game, which will take place 80 years after the first one, and center around a near apocalyptic war in the Martian system.

Sounds nice, although there might not be any ponies... there might be some Gundams though.

Btw, whats up with the assassin ass joke at the bottom?

Anyway, i wish you good success in your project guru!

There won't be any Gundams in this one. It seems as if everytime someone wants to make a futuristic RPG, they want to put in mechs. Maybe there will be mechs in later games in the series. If so, then the Martian game will be the most likely one. But I doubt that mechs will be a huge part of our future.

As for ponies, I could find a way to put that in. In this case, though, they could be created by crossing rhinosaurus and horse genes. I want there to be at least a minimal scientific explanation for most things.

You know ponies already exist. It's true, their existence have been proven a long time ago. Just google pony in google image search and look in awe at the scary truth!

I just tested the sprite, and it is way too small for the map. :-( Now I have to do it all over again. I'll probably just use a stick figure to move along, and then redo the graphic at some later time.

The bit about mechs: giant humanoid powered armor is so very always unlikely. The only reason ever to make a military unit like that would be the awe factor. Sure, we'll have powered armor soon, but it'll be only slightly larger than a man... much like the suits in Heinlein's Starship Troopers or Elementals in Battletech.

There's little reason to make a bipedal tank when a real tank will generally do. I could see hovertanks being a bigger deal for rough terrain, but really, I'd just put my money on continued advancement of combined-arms units.

Quite possibly the second biggest mouthful of a game title I've ever heard, right up there with the inexplicable Arcanum: Of Steamworks And Magick ObscuraDragon Quest VIII: The Sky, The Sea, The Earth and The Cursed Princess and Baiten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean.

The game sounds great, by the way: I just like titles to be snappy and overtly meaningful; that just by reading them you get a subtle indication of a game's overall mood rather than, say, a headache.

@mcgrue: Yeah, but can your combined-arms unit transform into a jet? Or a semi-truck? Or an oversized tape deck?

Also, sounds like an intriguing plot! I'm looking forward to your first demo!

...I'm also looking forward to my first demo.

You're looking forward to you're first demo? Is he allowed to do that?!

Well, I'm eagerly anticipating scratching my ear in a minute. Then I'll be awaiting with trepidation a visit to the fridge to get something to drink. Finally, I'm looking forward to experiencing the joy that is me going to bed.

Yup.

"...your first demo?" ;)

Heh, sorry, I didn't mean to go MEMEMEMEMEEE! right in the middle of someone else's thread. Err... See, I'm just always looking towards the future. Move forward! Never backward! That's my motto. Yeah, that's it. >_>

Hey, interference, doesn't this have some similarity with your game from the thread http://www.verge-rpg.com/boards/display_thread.php?id=29656 ? You could mix your ideas together and make a team! The color composition of the art is also very similar.

Code, I also can't wait for my first demo! Someday... lol

It's a nice concept, but our ideas are very different. Sure, both of our RPGs are set in a space-faring environment, but our stories are going in completely different directions. Another project might be nice to collaborate on, though.

So how's the project going? :D
