There seems to be a huge lack of activity on the verge-rpg boards. What's going on, people? Does the latest version of VERGE have a fatal virus that will permanently cripple any computer systems it comes in contact with? IS IT TARKUSS'S FAULT???

This is excellent news.

So why aren't you working on a game, mister?

I plan to. I need to outline a good story first.

I am currently working on two big games at the same time. I usually only post here when there seems to be a bug or I need help. I think it's the same with many others.

Needs maor politics.

Board activity needs maor politics. I agree.

Maybe people aren't posting so much _because_ they're working?

Dude, don't wait until you have a story to start working on a game. A ton of the stuff that can be done doesn't require a story. Work on the game engine!

Ah, but you see the story will have a huge effect on the genre of the game. To make an engine and then decide later make a completely different game, would be time wasted that I could've used to write the story, and get working on the real engine sooner. That is good advice, however, if I knew the genre.

A good story transcends genre. In the end, you'll just want to TELL it, be it as a 320x240 SNES-style RPG or a BG-style point 'n' clicker or (hell) a strat game.

I'm basing the genre on the story not the other way around. If I did it the other way around the game would likely feel empty and incomplete.

Since I will probably be doing all the work myself, I will likely make it a 320x240 screen resolution game. Anything larger would be too much work for one developer. It will also probably be the traditional arrow-keys-control-the-main-character type of game.

I just started the prewriting just after my last post and I completed a huge chunk of the basic story material already.
