Overkill

Zip has released MAKmak - a crazy utility that allows converting old sprites from either v1, v2, or v2.6, to v3 easier (for those who want to resurrect old projects), as well as making importing image files such as PNG, PCX, GIF, etc. to be made into sprites. Using this file, it will dump .MAK, .BMP and .BAT files, which can then be used to create a verge3 chr. It is in a lazy beta release, as zip stated on IRC, but may prove to be useful still.

Just thought this project deserved its own thread, seeing as I first came up with this idea. However, I abondoned it after failing at movescript parsing and other complicated stuff, and zip took it way beyond what I ever had in mind for it.

Enjoy.

CREDITS:
zip - The dude who made this project happen.
overkill - The dude who tried to make this happen. He failed. However, he did hotspot dialogue, gradients, and mouse collision.
gannon - The dude who beta-tested, bug-hunted, and helped crack version 2 (verge2), 4 (verge2.6), and 5 (verge3) characters.
No more dude for you.

  • Load GIF,JPG,PCX,PNG,TGA.

  • Edit existing MAK files.

  • Hotspot customization is easy click and drag.

  • Idle frames are an easy click-to-set method.

  • Try clicking on the mini-palette in the load dialogue!

  • HERO.CHR, and BOB.CHR are my contributions.

  • ...And more!

Wow, cool utility...and it's even cooler that it's completely done with Verge3. I noticed an old bunny girl CHR I made somehow made it's way into here :P

There's no ReadMe or anything?

EDIT: I guess this is gonna be a full-blown CHR editor eventually, judging by the TO DO list.

<zip> Haven't even done readme.

Yeah, I kinda suck. So I didn't do a proper post. But ovk puts me to shame. Anyway, it can do a lot of stuff at the moment, and will to more in the future.
Some of the code might be useful to others (TomT has borrowed some of the load stuff already) but I suggest steering clear of _interface, which is an excelent example of how confusing a project gets if it starts small and keeps having stuff added to it. And yes, I performed some large scale chr theft for testing. I'll credit or remove from zip as requested. Bug/suggestion posts welcome.

Expect v2.6 (VERGE 2 hi color) CHR support in one day or less. It's already being alpha tested. It writes and loads them correctly, just making sure I didn't break other code.
