I was thinking of making a library that does this. Are such features already planned, or am I free to code?

Hmm. Perhaps in the not so immediate future, then. Time management during the summer is surprisingly hard this year.

I just realized that in order to do this, it would require a RenderMap() function that would have to be called in a loop.

Which means that the map engine won't process input...

Other possibility: Render maps to HookRetrace...which allows custom display and player input...
