NEW DOCS ADDED! SEE THE TOP POST!
ehem... enough shouting...
Originally posted by Gayo I'll be the supervisor. Get to work, you lot!
NOT FUNNY! C'mon - share your extensive verge knowledge - half an hour doc-ing won't kill ya. Check over the maped stuff to start if you like.
Originally posted by Interference22 an informed look at the games on offer should help newbies and oldbies alike find good examples of games that work, games that don't and some decent VC code to play around with. All my reviews will discuss the presence of source code, plus how easy it is to navigate if it's there.
Sure - remember these are people's babies that they have slaved over though, and (almost exclusivley) WIP.
Originally posted by Omni I've got no problem having a bit of repetition among tutorials as long as everything gets covered. Every writer is bound to include a bit of exclusively useful information in his.
A whole bunch of individual, non-comprehensive, repetative docs is going to confuse ANY newbie. I see my aim as taking everyone's sections and combining it into on document per topic - individual comments are still fine - but stuff needs to be all in one place so it can easily be found. If I want info on maped, I'm not going to want to have to hunt through 3 or 4 different docs covering the same thing.

With a little bit of luck I should be able to do a Tutorial about fonts over the weekend; including some tips about how to abuse the nifty AlphaFont functions from Tristan.

I have a Chrmak tutorial I wrote for V2 many moons ago which could easily be modified/updated for V3. I'll have it to you by the end of the night!
Also, I was doing a getting started as well as a "making my first game" tutorial, but since Interference has that covered, I'll just finish off the "making my first game" part of it.

MOAR NEWS! CHRMAK section addded.
Buckermann: Sounds good to me. Fonts are a trick y but essentail part of making your game look nice.
Ovk: Nice again.
Rysen: If you want to check over the tutorial with your stuff, you've been made an editor, so feel free to add/change stuff if you feel it's appropriate. This goes for any other CHRMAK gods too.
Troupe: Good news. I <3 Troupe. In fact: I <4 Troupe.

Okay, first off good job overkill. ^_^ I appearntly lost my old version, so you saved me some time. :P
I did edit it a bit. I added an easier way of using the program (without having to use the command prompt), and also added a "Hotspots" sub-section. (Hotspots weren't included in the original packin's darin.mak"). While trying to create the sub-section, I accidently created a new section, which I couldn't figure out how to delete. So, if Grue or anyone else that has that sort of power could delete the "Delete Me" section, that would be great. :P

Ehe - Omni, I've cannibalized some of your docs for the main verge ones - stuff on .NET and the files in the current engine pack. I hope you don't mind. And I now see why you were having fun moving it over to plain html - what on earth did you make them in?
<p><span style="color: #000000"> <span style="font-size: 12pt"> <span>
       </span> <span style="font-weight: bold"> <i>chrmak5.exe </i> </span> --this is the sprite maker for Verge3. It’s called “Character Maker 5".</span> </span> </p>
Just for this:
chrmak5.exe --this is the sprite maker for Verge3. It's called "Character Maker 5".

Well, I did write a bigass talkback on V3 operators in the main docs, which I will some time tidy up and present as a separate document page. That was a bit of work. As for the rest, I'm having a hard time thinking of things I'm uniquely suited toward.

Ok, I'm going camping tomorrow, 9am (GMT). Expect me to resurface with some thingumabobs next weekend. This should include:
* At least a couple of reviews
* Some more WIP for my Beginners' Guide

...Actually, I hadn't taken a look at the source yet. I was going to do it tomorrow.
I made it with Nvu, a Linux/Windows freeware web page creator. Apparently it's not very good.
EDIT: Actually I exported to HTML using WordPerfect. I use Nvu for the website.
Oh, and I don't mind you canabalizing my docs. Feel free. In fact, I might have another one out Saturday for you.

Finally got around to reading some of your tutorials Omni, and good greif man, they are great, and basically what I've been working on myself....so I'm not going to anymore. :P
If no one's doing the FAQ, I could scour through the sticky and try and make some sense of it, but I'd really rather not start on something that someone's got well under way. ^_^
If that's all ready being worked on then maybe I could start on some "Intermediate" tutorials, on things like creating a menu system, complete with inventory, equipment, etc. Just let me know, since it seems all the newbie stuff is covered. :)
Edit: What is wanted to be done with the "Vergedoc: The next generation"? I don't quite understand what you're looking for there. Are we talking game theory, or...?

Rysen, you may want to email Grenideer about the FAQ. I know he was planning on doing the FAQ over last weekend but I am not aware of how far into that venture he got.

Uh, hey, thanks Rysen!
Zip, I feel like apologizing for that sarcastic canabalizing comment. I didn't make a copyright on Microsoft's .NET information or anything, so I can't hold it against you. I wasn't feeling too happy about docs yesterday :(
Also, I'll try and make another tutorial today.. Depends on if I can finish it before I go watch Hellboy with some friends :)
By the way, if any of you have ever heard of an independent film called Bubbahotep starring Bruce Campbell....see it. It's great.

Gayo: I've created a new operators section for your lovely information. However, I need someone with access rights to your post to copy the info across. I've done enough re-html-ising in the last few days.
Interf: Enjoy, and keep your hands of the scouts.
Grue: Gren is doing the faq? Did no one mention this before for a reason?
Rysen: And you'd better email Grue on exactly what 'The Next Generation' is... :D Some kind of intermediate tutorials would certainly be good - turn your hand at whatever you feel inspired on.
Omni: :D Yeah, the .NET section probably owes as much to ThinIce as it does to you. The other bit is moar of a straight copy. Anyway, no need to apologise, the sarcasm barely registered. I want to get these docs done *without* trampling on to many egos - the point is it HAS to be a community effort - it's just too big a job otherwise. Your docs have a load of good information, but are not obviously accessable to newbies, and not addable to by other people. As I see it we want ONE *clear* and *comprehensive* newbie introduction, having various people running off in their own directions is just going to lead to a lot of verge-style half finishedness. YOU shouldn't be expected to write the docs on your own, I want to make life easier for you as well.
