Hi everyone i think i have found a way to create an mmo in verge im not to sure on all the details but so far i have worked out the following
items that could be easily or seemingly so to do.

Ok, so first the basics we of course need a way to connect to a server or something similar to a server IE: LAN connection or game 2 game over a local net work where one game servers as host and the others connecting would be the clients and vice versa.

Also we would have a database of some kind for the clients to connect with upon contacting the server and thus allowing the online aspect of our mmo.

Any way this is a short paragraph on how an mmo could be possibly created in verge yes i am aware of the more technical aspect of such a project i just wanted to put this out their and see if anyone thought it may be worth doing i have the project under construction at the moment i have a very basic engine and i probably will release the source once its completed no release date set yet but if all goes right soon as possible thanks for your time guys.

really i think its a mater of time before some sort of online play occurs in the style of mmos maybe not quite an mmo but really close in style of game play.Kinda of like how fable2's online play works you can see other people but inner act much differently than traditional mmos.

Edit: I just got a client and a server running still building on them both
thanks.

I suppose it's possible. For very loose defintions of "Massive" and "Online". Better men than you and I have tried though, somewhere between Verge 2 and Verge 3. and they gave it up as as bad job.

Actually, Ustor's close to beta on a persistent multiplayer online verge 3 game. You can read snips about it over at www.wundermint.com

Ustor is AWESOME, though. In this, he is the exception that proves the rule.

Being that I am now closer to the end than the beginning (I hope!), I think it's safe for me offer some tidbits of wisdom based on my experience:

  • However long you think it will take, it will take longer, by at least an order of magnitude. Creating this game will completely and utterly sap your will to live. By the end, you will gain 40 lbs, speak only incoherent nonsense, be disowned by your dog, and be left wondering "Where did those last couple years go?".
  • It will be, for all intents and purposes, impossible to complete with a small team (and I've yet to see anyone pull together, let alone coordinate a 50-man VERGE team) and your game will have to be severely compromised to reach completion. The game you end up with will not be the one you fell in love with early on. This is, without exception, soul-crushing.

I applaud anyone who likes to dream big, but know that if you miraculously don't burn out before you reach the finish line, you will immediately afterwards. In short: don't do it. But if you do, make sure it's cool so we have something fun to play.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
