Hey all,
I don't know if this goes here, but I was just wondering how many people of you are interested.
Mydfall 2D is a free mmo which is going to be developed in the Verge engine. Mydfall was first 3D but since almost all of our 3D modelers left the team because of their busy sceduals it was canceled.
So we decided to go 2D and we went looking for a good engine. Verge was our solution, it's really a great engine and we believe we can accomplish our project with this engine. Now we only have some slight problems left. We still need a couple of coders and spriters to help us with the mmo. Ofcourse if you have other skills you can apply for a place in our team too.
Now I already hear you guys saying aaww no not another going-to-fail-mmo, but if everyone is thinking that way ofcourse we wouldn't accomplish. But with your help we can make this a succes.
Please take you time reading this post, and if you have questions or just wanted to check us out feel free to visit www.mydfall.com and see some of the done work.
note: to the board admins, if this post is in the wrong place, please move it to the right place.
Greetings,
Maxx

It's fast enough for an mmorpg as long as the mmorpg only has 5 people playing at a time :D
Edit: But I've been wanting to do something like that since VO. Don't get discouraged, try it!

Taking the 'massively' out of massively multiplayer, I see.
So could it be a FAMORPG, or 'Fairly Average Multiplayer Online RPG'?

The MMO moniker would still apply, with a slight change in meaning. Minimally Multiplayer Online :(

Mackzee, good luck on this! Not a week goes by that I don't think about how cool it would be to build a nifty online RPG, and I hope to see good things come out of you and your team. :) Do you have info anywhere on the 'net or are you still in the planning/not telling anyone anything stage? I AM READING YOUR SITE RIGHT NOW IT IS VERY PRETTY! :D
Also, about the netcode... if I recall, vecna has said that the netcode is basic enough that there shouldn't really be much overhead over what you'd get writing it in C(++) anyway. Net stuff is always slow... the hard part isn't getting clients talking to the server, it's getting clients to not crap out when they can't talk as fast as they'd like. I'm really interested in how you guys deal with this. :)
Again, good luck!

If you had bothered to read the post you would see that he linked a very nicely done and full-featured website, noob!
I think the v3 netcode is slower than C++ however, and I think there are still some bugs that need to be worked out. But hopefully with a bit of improvement it should be fast/stable enough to do something of this or lesser magnitude. Good luck to you, certainly!

Edit: And now, having looked through the site, I am even more excited for you guys. You definitely seem to know what you're about. Good luck. :)

Thank you very much for the good comments, btw we got an email from Tristan Michael (or is it Micheal tristan lol) saying he found a good engine for a mmo, verge is a good one yes, but the netcode sucks (that's why we wanted to code one) but now Tristan found an engine with great oppertunities for mmo scripting, we will use this one instead of verge (not that it's not good! lol) simply because it has more mmo features. The team hereby wants to say thanks to Tristan for saving us a lot of trouble !
Btw yeah our site is cool, but our webdesigner is working on something new with some cool fantasy stuff in it ;) should be done by tomorrow.
Oh and don't feel shy to join our (almost dead) community lol. We are trying to bring it back to life since our project has ben re-opened. This will be a succes people.
Thanks

Just as an aside, what is this MMO engine that Tristan suggested?

I still love verge! It's just that I don't believe it's powerful enough for someone with dreams of making a mmorpg. Is that so wrong?

Yes.

But I'm curious too, what engine did you direct him to?

...because sockets under Python are, uh, better than VergeC? (...don't answer that)
EDIT: Well, I'd imagine they are.

plus: openGL rendering, proffesional scripting language, ability to be extended by python modules
minus: it has worse map editor, bad documentation, small comunity
Performance and programmability is the most important for us - Revived studios
