Greetings to the talking clam community!,
I am very new to this idea of VERGE, but like what you all are doing and am excited to try to create a game using this engine. From everything i have seen and from the few games that i have played it looks like you all are doing great and wonderful things. I just had one question before i dive in head first.
Using the verge engine can i create a game that looks and functions as well as games on the SNES, such as Chronotrigger, and Tales of Phantasia? This is assuming i become a guru and know how to use the system very well, will it support such graphics and mechanics?
Thank you all for your time in reading a new members post.
Ebo
I expect to be heckled by all of you in the near future!

A very warm-hearted welcome Ebo :) The answer to your question is: yes, certainly, provided you do in fact become a guru of both programming and graphics. VERGE will function as well as if not better than any of your favorite SNES RPGs, as long as you've got the skills to produce that caliber of game.
Welcome again, can't wait to see a demo from you :D

Do keep the proviso in mind. Realistically speaking, none of us will ever be good enough to do all that stuff ourselves, and it's years of backbreaking effort to become an expert at even one aspect of design. If you go in with those kinds of standards, make sure you have the patience to see things through.

Hmmm, I thought it was a pretty fair warning myself. Game Development is NOT easy unless you're using something like Click and Play, and even then only for small projects.
All things considered, VERGE is a pretty good balance of power and ease of use, especially if a SNES Style RPG is something you want to make, but something like Chrono or Tales is a WEE bit out of reach of - well - pretty much most of the community.
I'm not saying it's not THEORETICALLY feasible, but it's way on the periphery of what's achievable. Just look at your own Saga Of The Stars, Grue - that's been in development for a period of time comparable to Duke Nukem Forever.
Still, Game Development is definately one of the most rewarding ways a gamer can spend their spare time, and thanks to Vecna, the Verge Dev folks and VERGE itself, it's achievable even with a fairly modest PC and a bit of spare time.

Just wanted to point out that that is still very much a work in progress so expect grammar/spelling mistakes abound, and if you have any questions/feedback regarding anything written in that tutorial please feel free to e-mail me. :)
Also, the 'basic package' referenced in the tutorial hasn't been uploaded yet. I'll put that together tonight.
Welcome to the community!

You can make a SNES quality game easily - but can you create a quality SNES game easily? With or without Verge, I think not.
Motivation is barely the half of it. Dedication, time, effort and skill all come into it as well.

Zeux's World.
If there was ever a demo for verge that shows that it is capable of SNES-'LIKE' games, that would be it. And to think, Verge3 is more flexible than the system that game was made with.
Now if only we could get Zara to make a ZW2 in Verge3. With maybe some ZZT references even.

I agree with this man. Motivation, time, and a touch of stylish flair will get you far.

Actually, I think there are several people in the community who do tiles on par with those on the SNES, and there are definitely people with the programming skills to work out the technical aspects. I'm not sure if I've yet heard any music really on par with the best SNES songs, though. Surely there is nothing in the software stopping you from pulling that off, though.
