...are there any offical term used for users who writes VC and/or plays verge games?

stupid question, you might say, but I felt strangely stupid upon knowing that a student in our campus is named "Verger" -- no kidding, it's his real name not alias.

Omni

Yeah, it's vergers, if I remember correctly :)

Vergers is historically correct. Because nobody wanted to be a Vergin.

If anyone asks, our fellow GCE'rs are: Hamsters, Spheroids, Ikanauts, and Retards.

(would Fury^2 users be Furies?)

... And Zeuxers, if the MegaZeux community hasn't spontaneously exploded since I last checked.

Retards. RPG Maker 2000 users, by any chance? Minimum skill, minimum effort, moronic results.

Hamsters? I...really don't know that one.

OHRGCE? Really, no idea.

It's actually called "OHRRPGCE" or something ridiculously cumbersome. The "OHR" stands for "Official Hampster Republic" or something along those lines.

Which engine do the "Retards" work with? Do they hum Ride of the Valkyries poorly as the make games? :D

I like OHRRPGCE, it's a cool little thing to make unique looking rpg without to much hassle program wise.

For info on it Omni :

Mcgrue, would I be considered a Vergin because I still haven't had my own demo out ?(Well, serinor doesn't count)

Int22 got it right away, but don't feel bad. He's british, which is like the third smartest nationality ever!

...

...just call me "Johnny Dissentseed".

... Okay, I didn't even see Int22's post until just now. Dur.

I was a hamster for about a week a long long time ago. I remember being impressed that they have different types of obstruction tiles... then I remember almost suffering from heart failure at the absurdity of a hamster RPG engine.

oh and I was an ikanaut for about a month... but then I decided I might as well just do SDL... that was fun for about another month until I realized how much C++ sucks in comparison to python. But by that time my game programming inspiration died along side the death of duskbane ;_; and was replaced with web development inspiration.

Duskbane is dead?

Why is it dead?

Like old soldiers, VERGE games don't die, they just fade away.

Really, Python is absurdly easy to use, I think. I only have a vague grasp of C++, going to try reteaching myself a bit soon...but Python is like a great jump-in-and-go language. Pygame [http://www.pygame.org] makes it doubly interesting. I like Ika and I hope it does alright, but I haven't done much in it or Python in a while...speaking of which, I ought to check that pygame site, since I haven't seen it in a while either.

Maybe we should push to get Verge content on the RPG Maker 2k hub sites :)

That quote is going on my list of the patently absurd. If your avatar is anything to go by, it looks as if you still are a hamster, albeit a sabre-toothed one. Sad to hear about Duskbane. I poke Parallel 7 now and then but I'm throwing the vast majority of my effort into coding Perceptions at the moment. I'm even using your A* library.

I agree with Omni: Python is stupidly easy. I couldn't wrap my head around VC (not for lack of trying) 6 years ago but Ika's Python script was clear and understandable.

I was even an early Ikanaut for half a year (back when Ika was called Verge 2.7 and the development tools were just a rudimentary map editor and a hicolor version of ChrMak) before something suddely clicked inside my head and I realised I could finally understand VC. I swiftly defected back to VERGE, excited by the promise of pack files, smaller engine executables, fewer DLLs and the coming of V3 though. What can I say? I'm a stickler for tidiness.

Man, I remember half of those engines. I've tinkered with most of them, but VERGE always seemed to have the most going for it.

VERGE C historically wasn't all that difficult to understand, though it did have a lot more substantial limitations in Verge 1. (No negative numbers was a pretty major one. Was it V3 or V2 that fixed that?)

V2 and V3 were quantum levels above that though, but I think it was a lot easier to get a grasp on if you had a grounding in V1.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
