Well, not really a poll. I just catch myself sometimes thinking, just how busy is the Verge community? At times it could be inspiring to know that some other guys/gals sit and code games, work on graphics, music and what not. So, in the spirit of this poll "What are you doing VERGE-wise?" I shall hereby list my sparse awesome activities.

- Roaming the Forums

- Working on a game, current project-name is "Grandeur"
(RPG inspired by classic SNES RPGs and Morrowind)

- Semi-working on a game called Starfighter
(Space Shooter that's going nowhere because of lack of graphics)

So, what are you guys doing?

  • Making SHM2, a dopey little sequel to SHM that's run into endless problems with tile-based movement and crate pushing. Hasn't been touched in a month or two, though. I'll use your wonderful term "semi-working" for this one, I think.
  • Working on-and-off on a chr. Yes, a single chr. It's not all that, but it's a fancier chr than I've done to date, so it's taking ages. This is the forward idle frame.
  • Working on the LBS, my battle system from the BS compo. Barring horrible bugs, it's close to a new public release. After that there will be one or two more public releases, and then I'm hanging my hat on it to work on non-VERGE things.

Working on a game. Right now I'm still writing and building the core gameplay code. Also making little bits of art, but I'm not too happy with what I've so far so I'll probably scrap most of it and start over (that just applies to art, not story or code).

Eh. Here's some things that I MIGHT be doing...

--I should be working on Love Revolution, but then I should be working on my college thank you cards too.
--Entity/map rotation/scaling system
--An idea for a sidescrolling I've been wanting to make for, like, forever...which isn't getting touched until the entity/map library is finished.
--Playing Persona.

--Oh, and running through the forums...a little more than I should, probably.

What the heck are college thank you cards?

Thank you cards I write to people for graduation presents upon beginning the journey to college. Luckily, I've already written them, I just have to address the envelopes and get them mailed.

Troupe

-Working on Duskbane Complete, mostly.

-Tracking for 21038102984 projects (sorry Alexandir, I really will work on Midsummer again some day).

-Making a short little game by myself (with my own original art!).

-Browsing the forums at least twice per day, arguing politics and such.

-Doing painfully difficult VG remixes. ;_;

Overkill

  • Working on an untitled RPG that will make use of customizable spells, and will have lots of interesting inventory items.

  • Ironing out a platform engine, which hopefully will find its use again.

The above projects will most likely consume a good deal of time. But I'm making working at a fair pace, with no major stumping errors/bugs as of yet.

  • Also: Doing a little bit of forum venturing and IRC discussion.

That should be it.

+ Roaming the forums.
+ Working on my long-term project "Perceptions," which has recently been restarted as a 640x480 mouse-driven RPG after I realised that while it's more work, the higher resolution and change of controls would be much less restricting and mroe fun. I'm currently working simultaneously on producing a series of functions libraries for it - with code for the GUI, party handling and mouse-based funkiness - as well as the tile and entity art for it.
+ Getting ready to do some more Parallel 7 work, since people would like to see it finished.

Being a holy huge bitch and doing practically nothing in the Verge scene after completing my work on Diver Down last year. I have been utterly, utterly, useless.

But I like the spirit of the amateur game dev community, so I always play the demos you guys put out and try to give constructive criticism. I really want to make games, but I quite suck. So my second best option is to cheer you guys on. :D

Right now I'm engaged in Alex's Midsummer project, but its moving reaaaal slow *COUGH*, and I need a tablet. I also lurk little on the forums since the posts trickle in very slowly.

I wish I could contribute more to the community. :|

Well, there IS only him working on the MAIN body (ie. the code, mapping and dialogue). Sometimes I wish I had someone to work with face to face but currently I have only my supercharged enthusiasm to fuel me, which has to run out SOME time, let's hope not any time soon :-).

This all gives me yet an idea, someone (hint: Grue) could code the games section and have a project area. Showcase. One area for finished games, one for works in progress. The only really bad thing about that idea that I could see is that information would be based on user-update, and that's probably where the idea falls. I still feel like airing it though.

-Waiting for P7 direction from Interf.
-Helping mate port a game from Curses to OGL
-Thinking about, rather than progressing on, my own project
-Bracing myself for some hot DOCS action, perhaps with newbies thrown in

Ok, ok! P7 work shall recommence this Saturday. I've been coding some Perceptions funkiness.

Perceptions-wise, I implemented RageCage's A* algorythm (harder than it should have been) before finding it's not quite what I'm after (it doesn't seem to be all that accurate.. Hrm..), worked on some fairly funky tile art, slashed out a few lines of code since I realised they were totally unnecessary and working on some generic art for the game which I may tentatively reveal to the public eye in the art forums later this month.

I have also been shooting Nazis in Medal of Honour after finally finding somewhere that sells the original version (non-deluxe-expansion-pack-overpriced-crap-version) for a mere ten pounds. Yay for "Toys 'R' Us." And their staff, who accidentally managed to bundle an EXTRA disc 2 into the box, meaning that now I don't have to discswap so much with LAN games.

Meanwhile, Zip, feel free to exercise some optimising of your own and get that battle engine into a state you're happy with before we start plugging extra features into it.

Gotcha. Implimenting some stuff I had planned from the start, like triping people up on leg hits, and knocking them backwards on body hits.

Working on the party/item/magic/battle systems for Dragon Warrior Legend in Verge3... I had all of this done in Verge2, but decided porting would be wise.
