I found these two books while browsing Amazon and am wondering if anyone here on this board has had any experience with them. It's more for the theory of writing a game that I had the idea to buy one of them, but I want to know if they're worth getting. I'd provide the hyperlink to them but they're huge.

Generally books on RPG design for PC tend to be for, well, PC-style RPGs. Ultima, Bards Tale, M&M type games. Which is all well and good, but we're generally lovers of the SNES/Gen style RPG here.
That said, I have no idea if those books fit into aforementioned category.

Second one is quite old but I've only ever heard good things - mainly theory based I believe. (but I have no idea, it does turn in bibliographies quite a bit)
2nd one is more of a how to program DirectX 3D graphics in a windows environment with a RPG bent. There's some stuff at the front about writing stories but it's fluff and not worth it really. There's a lot of technical detail and it's written with the beginner in mind, covers quite a lot of stuff. It's a good book but not about RPGs as much as it is about graphics programming and 3D games in general.
