Very bad news (concerning my computer).

It's dead. Dead as a doornail. I don't even know how bad the damage is. The light on the motherboard tells me that the motherboard IS receiving power, although the computer will NOT turn on. My first assumption is the power supply (450 watt!) is toast. I ASSUME that the information on the harddrives is intact (my almost completed game).
I was playing (don't laugh) ragnarok online. I leave the room for just 20 seconds, and when I come back, the monitor is giving me that "No input check connections" crap. So I press a few buttons. No go. I press the power button. No go. I check every connection, remove every cable, put them back together, reseat the ram, reseat the cards, clear the CMOS, etc etc. Dead. Moral of the story: Don't ever leave your computer. Ever.
I know the processor is still under warranty (I build my own computers). However, I don't know where I put the receipt for my motherboard. I'm sure there is another moral there somewhere. I don't really have enough money at the moment to buy a new motherboard and processor if they aren't covered... so I don't know how soon I'll be able to work on my game again. :(
That computer only lasted about 9 months. :(

Yea, that really sucks. I had my power supply crap out just last weak, turns out it was a poorly mounted heatsink. I was right in the middle of coding something too :/

btw, if your harddrives are in fact dead, this is a good case for making regular hardcopy backups. CDRs are cheap like that. :)

I seldom generate so much code in a month as to need 4 gigs of backup as opposed to 700 megs.

In that case, code could fit on floppies, but I was thinking about saving more than code.

I actually have a DVD burner, but I'm not really that afraid of the HDs to be dead. There's not a whole lot of reason to assume they would be. But, worse case scenario and all that...

Yay, I might be getting a laptop soon. Depends how well my job interview goes in approximately 3 hours. Hell, I could have it as early as today. :D I'll be sure to get something verge worthy... as long as it's under $1100 including tax.

CDs all the way. By the time I generate enough stuff worth fitting on a DVD, something could have happened to wipe it all already. CDs pretty much hit the backing up sweet spot.
