I *knew* I wasn't just hallucinating after that System Shock 2 session a while back: check this out -

This is a copy of V3 just starting up in windowed mode. Look at the title bar when it starts loading data and you might be quick enough to see what the name of the application reads before it quickly changes to "verge3." Xerxes!

Xerxes is the ship's computer on board the Von Braun, a faster-than-light starship where most of System Shock 2 takes place. Easter Egg?

Apostrophes, Kyle.

Xerxes is vecna's. I dunno how much more than that is confidential. I'm sure he'll tell you all about it later.

Xerxes was originally a Persian King as Troupe said. It's been the name of many a project because it has two x's, and everyone knows that even one 'X' makes something cool.

It is sometimes also spelled Xerces. That's less cool, tho.

Troupe

For a maximum cool, XerXes would be the best name. Maybe with an Xtreme thrown in for good measure. Eh, I wasn't aware that the function of xerxes was secret. EDIT.

What this means is that the program is secretly streaming information about your furry-porn activities to (xerxes) verge-rpg.com each time you start vergeł.

Also, yes Troupe, Klaus "xerxes" Lunde is definitely worth mentioning.

xerxes is the name of my personal windows/graphics/sound/etc library thats used by v3, winv2, and other sideprojects of mine like chasms.

As an aside, a google search for 'machine mother' reveals some rather disturbing porn sites >_

When V3 starts raving about beholding it's full glory, THEN I'll be disturbed.

That'll be the Glory of The Many, then. Is there some way of stopping the Xerxes thing showing up? Just for my sanity, of course. I'd hate for you to slip in any more subliminal messages. I remember one release of GCS MegaZeux once flashed the words "Subliminal Message" before starting up. Hmm.

Honestly, and this may be the more scary thing, I don't know where the xerxes thing is coming from. On my computer I never see xerxes - it changes too quickly. But - like I said, I dont know where xerxes is coming from. I have a global #define that determines the 'application name', and thats where the 'verge3' comes from (and where xerxes is in the empty shell version of it). The project is verge.exe and its verge.exe right out of the compiler, its not like compiled to xerxes.exe then I rename it to verge.exe. The only other instances of xerxes are xerxes.h itself, and in comments. One would presume that if I comment out the part that explicitly sets the window title, it defaults to xerxes, but the point is I don't know WHY ^_^

Now that IS weird. I'm expecting any minute now for the words "SHODAN Has You" to melt into view on my monitor in flurescent green before my study ignites into a ball of flaming death.

Or something.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
Verge-rpg.com is a member of the lunarnet irc network, and would like to take this opportunity to remind you that regardless how babies taste, it is wrong to eat them.
