Okay, I'm sure this is just a deal I'm having with my computer but I thought I might as well ask for help because I'm at that fun little point of frustration after trying to fix this up for a few hours....

I've been playing around with Chrmak5 and all has been well. Today I drew up a little sprite sheet with a character for my game and made him up a .Mak file with all the stuff set up, then I right click on the .Mak file and choose 'open with'. This is where the problem began, before Chrmak was in the list, now, it apparently is not. No problem I say to myself as I start browsing for the Chrmak file. I find it and it seems that no matter what, windows won't select it with the browse feature, even after I 'reinstalled' it again and tryed. I tried setting it up as the file type in my computer and the same problem occured. So, since windows won't let me open Chrmak5 I may be up shit creek, I don't know....

I'm using XP....Any Ideas?

Zip

Use Makmak or Tom's chr program instead. Both are graphic and avoid need for chrmak5 nasty dosness.

Overkill

MAKmak Beta thread. - Just a fun project me and zip worked on that used VERGE to open old CHR files and almost any image files, which were then exported to files that chrmak5.exe could handle (a BAT file, and a BMP).
VOpenCHR. - allows editing of all CHR formats.

Have fun with these links. These tools are your best friend. The packaged command line conversion tool is not quite so.

EDIT: Added the above mentioned links into the CHRMAK5 documentation, so that other new people can benefit easily, as well.

Rock on, Thank you. I haven't tried the VopenCHR yet, but MAKmak seemed to help, only, it put in numbers for the walk animation that were off and I had to change teose myself, probably was just user malfunction though. Thanks again....

Now is there anyway in a MAK file to set the main characters movement speed?

Use the mousewheel on the main screen of makmak to adjust the speed to what you want, then click the middle button to set the walk rates. Can't remember if I had keyboard synonyms for peeps whithout a wheel.
You can also change walkspeeds runtime with entity.speed[] - I think this resets every map though.

You should really try VOpenCHR! 8>D

Seriously though I'm about to release a seriously souped up version. I have 2 more features to add as of this moment before it's ready, but you can get a prerelease by going to http://vopenchr.sf.net/ and downloading from Snapshots (top of the download page, before the official versions)

EDIT: Also please submit bug reports and feature requests that aren't in the TODO or already up on the Sourceforge trackers. If you have a sourceforge account please login first. This way I can keep you informed.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
