Ok, I'm not a newbie with chrmak, I've made plenty of chrs successfully. This is just boggling me.

Here's my mak file:

chr_version 5
in boo.png
out boo.chr
frame_w 32
frame_h 32
hotspot_x 8
hotspot_y 8
hotspot_w 20
hotspot_h 20
frames_per_row 2
frame_rows 8

u_idle 0
l_idle 0
r_idle 0

u_walk F0W10F1W10F2W10F3W10F4W10F3W10F2W10F1W10

I have 2 frames per row of 32x32, and 8 rows. That gives me a total of 16 frames. Each frame is surrounded by a 1-pixel border. I keep getting a 0 byte output .chr!! Anyone know why this is happening? I'm racking my brain over and over again. My png is definitely called boo.png. I've checked it.

Have you read the actual error message?

Is your png image the wrong size perhaps? I remember chrmak complaining if the in image isnt 640x480 | 800x600

This has become a major problem. I cannot make any chrs, because ChrMak has all of the sudden stopped making chrs. It hasn't made a working chr for me in over 3 different image files!!! Zip, I had you 'compile' my last one for me. Now I have a different problem.

The frames for my newest chr are 70x70, which are too big to load in MakMak. So I'm pretty much screwed.

Any suggestions? I'm going to try to unzip chrmak again, maybe something got toyed with...

*cries*

ok, here's an update, too:

I took an existing png that I made with chrmak a little while ago (successfully), renamed it to test, renamed the mak to test, etc, kept exactly the same stuff, and chrmak produced a 0 kb chr file. Something is definitely wrong here.

well, another update:

I'm pretty confused. I took another makfile from a larger .chr (90x100 frames), edited a few #s, saved as a new mak..

I also clipped down my png file from 6 frames to 3. They were in 2 rows of 3 frames each, which apparently chrmak didn't like, because after the change (I made one column of 3 frames this time), it finally worked. It seems chrmak is very picky.. I don't understand why it works sometimes and other times not, but my analysis is that it doesn't like large chr files with more than 4 frames, or so. I truly doubt my makfiles were the problem, because i kept comparing my new ones with older ones that worked, and there were no differences except the #'s. If someone can clue me in to what CHRmaks limits are, I'd be so thankful, because this experimentation is way too time consuming and annoying.
