Well, you see. Verge doesn't need to make RPGs if you don't want to. But that's what Verge specializes in, console-style roleplaying game creation. Action and sports games are entirely possible with a bit of code. Though these would require more advanced things such as writing your own game loops, or hookretracing special things over top of the builtin map engine.

I don't think many (or any) people have tried to do a sport game before, but there has been quite a few "action"-related games, ranging from platformers, to space shooters, to stealth-based, to other such stuff.

I hope I haven't scared you away, but it may have happened, sorry. Why not check the games or file sections? There ARE non-RPGs out there.

However, there is no game-genre on this planet that cannot be improved by a little RPG.

Code

When I had a Mac, I tried to make a Capture-The-Flag game in HyperCard. I gave up pretty quickly, but man! Hyperscript was easy. It actually recognized "it" as a built-in variable! It was pretty nifty.

Anyway, yeah, Verge may sound like it's only geared towards making RPGs, but while it specializes in them, it's really as flexible as any game-making engine out there. Definitely dig through the games and demos in the downloads section to see what you can do with it. You could deliver the first Verge sports game! :P

Keep an eye open. I've got something slightly-but-not-particuarly-rpg based in the works.
