Sorry if a topic like this has been started somewhere else.

I've been working in maped 3 and had a few issues that I was curious about. First, I read that all tiles had to 16x16 or multpiles of 16. I created several images in GIMP that were 32x32. When I loaded them into maped, they were all read into one line. It wouldn't be that big of an issue if I could get the "Arrange Tiles" to work.

I've read through a lot of documents and haven't found any answers. Is there a way to do this so I can arrange my tiles the way I want? If not, its still doable, just a bit hard to sort out.

Second, I had some issues with the music. I put a midi file into the directory and the file name in the preferences of the map. I tried for a coupl ehours to get it to work. I never read anything that said maped3 supported midi, so I tried to put in an mp3. For some odd reason, the midi file played.

Pretty much just curious whats goin on there. Thanks for the help.

No clue about the sound. As for the tileset, maped displays your tiles with a particular number of tiles per row, and this is not generally the same number of tiles per row as the source image has. To fix this, you'll want to change the number of tiles per row on the source image, I suppose. Which is a pain, of course.

When I make tilemaps in PSP7, I set the grid to 16x16 pixels and turn on snap-to-grid.

That way, its just drag and drop, rearrange the tiles the way I want, ctrl-c, and import from clipboard. That's the easy part! :)

The hard part is painting 32x32 scenery, and not having autotile blending. *shrugs*

The tile library in maped3 is 20 tiles wide, so if you want the tiles to stay in the same configuration in me3 as in your art program, work with an image that is 320 pixels wide; more if you're using a 1 pixel padding between them (which you're probably not if you're using 32x32 tiles).

As for your sound issues... it could just be that your map isn't saving when you think it is. Always use Save As in maped3, because Save will (kind of randomly) not save. It's irritating, but you get used to it once you know about it.

Really, the best fix would be for someone to make an alternative to maped. *cough* >_>

Or maybe a mapMak utility. Although the mak files for that would probably be quite obscene to look at.

Save As! Good to know.
Another oddity that I learned about long ago is to always import vsp's from the clipboard, rather than from an image file.

Thanks for all your help. I'll try to keep this in mind and come back if I have any more issues.
