My laptop bit the dust before I could use Verge at all (aargh). Is there a copy of Verge that runs on DOS 6? It seems I'm back to using my main computer (which runs DOS and good ol' Windows 3.1) until I can save some money for a new laptop.

!!!

Try your hand at this:
Recently recovered ancient VERGE 1 tech demo.

I'm curious to see if it runs on that setup.

I wish I still had my old win9x box to run all this old stuff on.

Oh man!

Dude, you can play all of the v1 classics! :o

Here's the short list:

  • Blimpo Warrior
  • Deicide
  • Galaxy Destroyer
  • Revelation
  • Saga of the Stars
  • Tears of Veangence (get all three, they're all different! :o)
  • The Silver Circle
  • The Quest for Atyre
  • Lord of the Ikuzo
  • ...and where's Ninjaman's? :o

My apologies if I left anyone's favorite game off... anything readily on winv1 (afaik) I left off.

Anyways, you'll actually be able to see the second half of Saga of the Stars since winv1 likes to die on the FMV playing at the end of the first dungeon :(

You CAN see it, actually, but you'll need to edit the source code.

I personally think LtP is one of the best VERGE games, but the save points don't work in winv1, which makes it impossible.

assuming you're talking about License to Poop, I think winVerge totally boggled the LtP src.. I found myself unable to continue multiple times after beating a boss (mainly the first, Blue Star.. I think it had to do with the Rank flag), and was then disappointed when I discovered I couldn't save, because I can't beat Sharkey in the jungle stage...

and I really want to see the final map(s) because I haven't played them in ages. I asked on IRC how I could convert the V1 version to a new , fully functional V3 game (with a few edits, most likely) to release it alongside my new LtP project.

I think since vecna ported it to winVerge, he should help me port it to Verge3 :)

what do you think, vec?

I gave my character 3000 HP so I could beat LtP on WinVERGE without dying.

that's such a good idea..... what file do you edit, and do you have to vcc after edit?

Gayo

I forget, poke around. And I don't remember about the VCC. My suspicion is that you don't, but I wouldn't swear to it.

Edit: The file is darin.dat. Since there's only one EXP level in LtP, you just need to edit the level 1 stats.

It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
