Hi, it's the eternal pain in the butt here again -

could anybody/somebody please break down what elements have to be coded in to make a turn based battle system?

and oh...can somebody check my code on the other post i made? it's under "help splash screen".

Sorry to be a pain in the ass, i'm a terrible self-learner! I have to be taught everything first hand :(

Depends mainly on what style you want.

Earthbound/Dragon Warrior/Lufia are the simplest that can be engaging, in my opinion. That boils down to a battle menu, and a sorted list of actions.

Stick to simple. Make it so everyone enters their actions, and then the actions all resolve. You'll find that somewhat approachable as a novice.

Ooh, aren't you lucky! Maybe. :P
I was cruising the Sphere forums yesterday and I came across this very light battle system overview. It's not Sphere-specific, and heck, even if it was, it'd be a pretty easy translation. (Having never programmed in Sphere, I can say that with 100% 0% confidence)
So here you are:

My own battle system is a garbled mess, so you'd be wise to take first-hand advice from other people. But I recommend using entities. My battle sprites are images, and I really regret it. Their movement is choppy and there's a lot of slowdown. I'm going to have to dive in and revamp it one of these days...

ok thanks, but i'm looking for something along the lines of Final fantasy. i will look at it for educational purposes.

Can anyone shed any light on my misery of a piece of code on my other post about splash screens? thanks

It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
