What do all those DLLs in the Current Engine package do? If I knew, it'd be easier to release smaller packages (just Verge and its DLLs, no maps, no code, is surely over a megabyte).

If you just want the newest verge, you can the the .exe only (latest of vec's efforts).
If are talking about releasing your projects, that .exe is all you need, no .dll files or anything.
I think the reason the current engine is up as a whole package download is 1) maped and the rest should theoritically be being updated and improved 2) so those new to verge have everything they need in one easy package.

You know, I so just read this in readme.txt.

Well, hey, thanks.

So, let me change this thread into something more useful...

how do I make a font? I mean, where's the FNTMAK.exe or whatever?

EDIT: Wait, I just figured it out. Just load the image file. Huh. That's....really simple.

You don't need to anymore. All you need is an image. Theres some the files directory.

You load it with the LoadFont() func, just pass it the file name of the font image file.

If it's a variable width font, don't forget to call EnableVariableWidth() on it. else it will look ugly :p

You should also try Aens "True Type Font Converter" (needs Java). It takes a Windows TTF and converts it to a Verge font image file.
Very usefull.

vecna

Wow, you all answered all the questions for me!

Just to clarify tho, the first v3 verge.exe's release needed only the EXE, but current versions of v3 need verge.exe and FMOD.DLL. The three files absolutely necessary for a VERGE game are verge.exe, FMOD.DLL, and system.vc (or system.xvc if precompiled).

The rest of the DLLs are related to maped and packed.

Ah, yes, forgot the new versions actually complain of you don't have fmod. Vecna's answer there looks like it should be added to the docs section. MOAR DOCS!
