After a massive amount of time, I've rolled out the new version of verge-rpg.com.
Gone should be login problems and the file upload problems.
Please help me in testing out the site. If you find something wrong, let me know!
(There are probably things wrong.)

Next on the agenda list is:
- get large file uploads working (Lexico and Mademoiselle need to be on the site finally!)
- account recovery problems
- message owner editing/deleting issues
- gallerys
- gruedorf integration on main page
- cleaning up the FAQ
- looking into a new theme?
- "more" links on the "newest X" boxes.
- preview for message posting.
- messages need more padding on the bottom.
- custom messageboard reordering needs to be more intuitive
- logins seem to be expiring sooner than desired (not critical, but annoying)
- /tutorials/overkill/ExploringV3/ :(
- multiple edits seem to be ignored?! :(
- /screenshots/
- /sully/
- Welcome Email is currently out of date.
- less-than in an edit will cut the display off.

Very nice to see it working finally!! Good work, Grue! :D
There's a breaking bug in the new site: WHERE IS THE PICTURE OF SULLY IN THE MANUAL???
Are there any plans to have categories for the file directory? The current model works for featured downloads or searching specific things, but not quite for browsing.

Looking good! Some other things that come to my head that'd be nice:
* Auto-linking for stuff like http://foo.bar/ or www.verge-rpg.com appearing in a post.
* Brighten the background in code blocks to a slightly lighter grey.
* As Ioachim said, a categorized directory of files (like the older vrpg) for making it easier to browse through.
* I'd add more but I gotta run.

* Actually auto-linking is only a problem on legacy posts Yup, -Grue.
* Is there an edit link for posts?
* A preview button before posting would be rad :D Nope, -Grue

Looks great! I haven't tried out all the new features, but the stuff I have tried seems to be working very well. Nice job, Gruevester.

Btw, not sure if this is intended behavior but:
1. Clicking on a username that is not you takes you to that user's profile.
2. Clicking on your own username takes you to the "welcome to the user section." I'm not exactly sure what the intended action is, but at least two of the three options offered on that page would not be useful for someone signed in. Fixed, -Grue.

Can you suggest what you want? perhaps in a mock-up?

* (Minor) The parent message in a reply page shows a different gravatar than the user has in a thread view.
* The documentation page goes specifically to the Verge3 manual instead of the documentation index, requiring the user to go to the small "docs" link after clicking on the "Documentation" page to see the other docs. I would recommend taking them to the doc index, but possibly emphasize the manual. This way all docs are still navigable This is by design, -Grue.

Also a request! Can we get some sort of development page that links to some of the various Verge related github and sourceforge repositories (verge, vopenchr, v3tiled, maped2w, anything else)? I don't really have much idea what it'd look like, but likely just a static page with a bunch of informative links. I'm recently thinking attracting fresh developers is a good idea to help keep Verge alive.
Another request: Is there anyway the docs section could have a list of external articles too, like some of the tutorials from the old site? Ideally it'd be nice to move those external articles to this site, but that would probably require a bit more work. -request made below, grue.

Incomplete thought I can't edit, so posting now: A file's "Click here for other versions." link directs to a "died, lol" page -Fixed, Grue.

* Actually auto-linking is only a problem on legacy posts Yup, -Grue.
But it used to, so now all the legacy threads, even the relatively new ones don't have it. Can this please be fixed?

Why not even consider it? Pretty much every forum I've ever been on gives you this option, and I use it regularly. I don't really like having to submit incomplete posts, and then having to edit them multiple times just to test formatting-related things and bbcode. Not to mention, the old forums had a preview button, which I used practically all the time.
Edit: by grue
Okay fine it's on the list :|
There's just so much more important things to do.
But I'll do it. You just have to promise to post more.

You're right, that it's not very high priority. It's just a nice feature. My response was more of "whaaaaat why not" because I thought you were saying "no, this site can never have one" not "this is low priority". I can post more though!

Alright, I decided to play around with the doc system a bit.
Docs related things:
* Can't create a new document or tutorial currently. Once that's fixed, I will port On the Verge of Verging to the new docs system.
* Creating a new subsection under a section in a document will fail, although creating a section works fine, and then so does moving it into/underneath another section.
* The <code> tag's padding causes the box to overlap other lines of text. This makes it hard to read things. I wonder if the bbcode's equivalent code tag does it too? I'd recommend lowering the padding on all sides, or at least the vertical padding where it is more of an issue.
* The <ul> tag doesn't indent further when nesting lists.
* Old <pre> code in doc comments, in addition to being outdated has double-spacing or quadruple-spacing going on. It also seems like the code in comments is a tad dark, too.

* Greater-than and less-than signs are stripped from forum posts rather than being escaped. Or maybe it's <script>alert('test');</script> worse than we think (test of script tag)?

* threads need a paginator at bottom of page too! I didn't notice this was two-page thread now, because #newest brought me to the bottom of the page. -Grue, done.
* the newest post link should have also went to the page of the latest post, not simply reference the <a name='newest'> which isn't quite enough.
Okay done flooding this forum with tests for now.

I don't really have anything useful to add bugwise or anything of that nature, but I did want to say I dig the new site and it shows the insane amount of work you've put into this.
Feeling a little sentimental and nostalgic today, and verge has always had a special place in my heart. It's nice to see those that have been here forever still giving it the love it deserves.
Cheers guys. :)
