Due to a question about the rules, I am clarifying point 8c.
Formerly, the Text of this rule was:
8c. The length of this game shall be no less than 4 seperate maps with distinct tilesets.
It is now:
8c. The length of this game shall be no less than 4 seperate playable maps, and 4 distinct tilesets. A playable map is defined as one where a player entity may run around and trigger events (towns, dungeons, overworlds, etc.). To meet the tileset requirement, the only non-playable maps that have tilesets that will count towards the total number of distincts will be maps that are constructed in a fashion so that they *could* be playable maps, but are not for plot reasons (IE, secret meeting rooms of the Council of Doom for cutscenes, etc..).
Oh boy! Direct any questions to the talkback.

When you say DISTINCT tilesets, how so? What if my setting is fairly uniform and would, say, conceivably only consist of three fairly large tilesets or maybe even one bloody huge one? If we're not going for the standard medieval dungeons 'n' dragons fare and doing all the tile artwork ourselves, does this affect this rule in any way?

Distinct tilesets are defined as tilesets where the majority of the tiles within are unique. Copying tiles are allowed, but the majority of the tiles in each set needs to be unique.
Any genre can easily accomodate 4 seperate locations, unless your genre is the very infrequently spotted "Inside a cardboard box drama".
Doing custom art does not eliminate the need of this requirement.

Ok, my entire RPG takes place in a Spaceship. Most areas are fairly uniform and I'm able to accomodate most art into THREE tilesets: standard tileset, eerie tileset and spacewalk tileset. I may end up stretching this to a fourth if things get cramped VSP-wise but it *could* conceivable present a problem, that's all.

It'll be fine Fred - can allways just add a biodome or something if the grue starts getting picky.
It's my solo project where I have not intentions of using maps at all I'm worried about. But it will have 'map-like-things' so I might squeeze past.
By the way, get on MSN/ICQ now!

If your solo project is the one from irc which I'm writing the story for. Trust me it'll need maps. And it shouldn't be hard at all for me to get at least 4 distinct maps out of it too ^_~

Grue you dork. What about those of us who don't like having tile sets running all over the place and thus combine all the various tile sets into one horrificly large vsp?

Developer:
If your maps are suitably visually distinct from each other, I do not care if you've amalgamated them into one large vsp.
However, if there's a question of their visual distinctiveness and you only have one vsp, then it's my call.

It's your call anyway.

Ok, that makes more sense. I have absolutely no problem then.

I've not played with maped3 maps yet. But yeah. I can write story to incorporate at least 4 maped2 type maps. And if maped3 is in anyway similar, I can meet these requirements.

maped2 maps are convertable-on-load in me3. Although you may want to review the entity and zone data after conversion to verify for goodness.
At any rate, you'll need to fill in the eventcode names, as numbered events no longer exist.
