The site you're presently viewing is on a new server from the one that has hosted verge-rpg.com for the last five years. All glory to Lore, who now joins Locke in the hallowed halls of former verge sysadmin Valhalla! May he bathe in wine and women until he must fight again in the last battle: Ragnarok. Online.

I've just spent a bit of time cleaning up the codebase and making this new theme (which I did mainly to address Zip's concerns about the former default them being not very accessable to low resolutions. Also, it's pretty.) There are still quite a few errors to squelch out, and I wouldn't mind if anyone pointed out any new errors that may have cropped up.

Note, bum urls that start with 'www.verge-rpg.com' aren't errors. The DNS has yet to propagate over here. There are a number of absolute-path entries in the database, and I'm not going to alter them all since it'll be all better in a matter of days.

Sometimes the main content window renders narrow in firefox for some ineffable reason. Anyone who can come up with an html fix to make the main content area always stretch to the full width of the firefox browser window will earn a biscuit: a tasty, tasty biscuit. Also my undying love.

The most egregious error I know about right now is that larger files in the files section cannot be downloaded right now. I've been trying to work around some limitations for quite a few hours now, but I'm about ready to throw in the towel and re-think the file delivery system... which is fine since the file system was duefor an overhaul. However, until that happens, larger files like War of Fire and Diver Down will be inaccessable. Fixing this isue is my foremost priority with the site at the moment.

I also spent quite a bit of time augmenting and patching up the sometimes spotty sessions system we've been using for the past 18 months. I think I finally have destroyed the problem

Due to spending far, far more time* on things I didn't intend to with the most recent jaunt into this port, I haven't had time to test how the signup system and password recovery jazz held up. I managed to polish those systems up a bit as well on my sandbox server, but I'm beat and am going to bed now. If anyone wants to give them a full runthrough and report errors, that'd be super. To you lurkers that want to sign up right now, well, keep lurking for a few more days if they are broken... the file error is definitly more pressing at the moment.

Anyways, yeah. Goodnight!

*(I've been at this since 2PM yesterday. I have not yet slept.)

Oh yeah, and the pagination widgets work now. And you are brought back to the post you were editing when you're done editing it, and to the end of a thread when you pot a new message to said thread... instead of having those inconvenient links that point you vagely back to where you were.

Also, the little links in the byline of every forum post now serve as quickjumps within the thread if you want to share a post with outsiders.

Oh yeah, and there's the frontpage random screenshot gallery thingy. That's neat.

Aaand every page can now be printable. There's a link for that right by the signin/logout link at the top right corner of the page.

Aaaand that's all I can remember for now. Now I slep 4 rels.

Woo! Go Grue. :D

I love the new design. Now if Firefox would stop playing with element widths randomly, it would be perfect. :(

Edit: And we can edit our posts now! I am so happy. T_T

Oboy! Everything is sooo pretty.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the width errors or not, but this looks like a ticking timebomb to me:

link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='/~verge//images/theme/12//style.css'
link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='/~verge//images/theme/12//round.css'
link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='/~verge//images/theme/12//generics.css'

Every single URI on the page is like that. Remember, use Occam's Razor for HTML, Occam's Nodachi for SotS puzzles. Reverse the two and things are not pretty. :^p

So yeah... drop the extra / marks, see what happens.

Fox, every single one of those is controlled by a single php variable. When the DNS propogates, I go in and change it to / and all is happy.

And let me tell you, this variable is very, very important fr sandbox sites.

The webpage always appears narrow in Firefox for me. A refresh will make everything go back to normal, but every page requires a refresh.

On the plus side, it _is_ really pretty. Seems almost MacOS X-ed :)

Also, the front page gallery bar is really cool.

<Kildorf> is there any reason why .content_box is styled with 'width=100%' instead of 'width:100%'?

Yeah, so, the FF problem is over. One dwn, a bajillion to go.

There's a tiny problem with Safari, but otherwise the site looks great!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The problem comes from the middle <td> in the first row having a width of 100%. Moving this to the enclosing <table> tag instead fixes the problem in Safari and doesn't break FF. If it works in IE, I suggest that as a fix.

Hey. This is awesome.

...Um...why does the left sidebar disappear when I read posts? Is that just the way it works or a bug? Never seemed to notice.

Hmm... I take it this is why my website has disappeared?

I've sent you an e-mail, grue. Other than that... love the new site :)

Hey. Your login alerts are halfway amusing.

But, I am worried. I can't access the boards at all. Did I miss something and they're down for the moment?

Look, no fair, I'm logged in, okay?

Two problems, minor and major.
1. Anonymous posting doesn't seem to work for me (just tried posting to this thread and it didn't work)
2. Are the boards down for the moment? I can't access them at all.

Overkill

Yes, index.php yields this:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home2/verge/public_html/boards/index.php on line 229

However, me being clever, I noticed it was only the index page, so... in the meantime click on these links! :D

Wooot!

Nice work, all.

Lore, you can join me on the veranda. I'll be the one with the women and the wine. Bring your own VNC.

Looks very nice!
Your patience for tech geekery greatly exceeds my own.

What implications does the server move have for those of us who use verge-rpg.com e-mail? I have a hunch that someone wants to ship me some overnight Canadian pills to increase my semen volume by 500% or more, and yet I remain ignorant of such special offers. Will we be able to SpamAssassin properly after the dust settles?

Great work!

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
