Metal Gear Solid 2 hangs when it starts the second half of the game. Everything else works fine. Bloody Konami. I e-mailed tech support after reinstalling the game a couple times and playing with every setting there was.

Over a month later, I get a form e-mail back telling me that if I'm having problems, I should make sure I'm running the newest DirectX.

Die Konami scum.

Hey Interference, didn't you have this problem? Did you find a workaround?

Maybe I'll go back and do a speed run of Beyond Good & Evil. That might lift my spirits.

Christ! Someone actually reads my LiveJournal! Yes, I had that problem and sadly STILL have it. Bastards. Konami make great games but poke them just a little and it becomes predominately clear they couldn't code to save their lives. I hope when ATI releases the 4.6 Catalyst Drivers this problem magically disappears. If not, I will be very mad indeed. Japan will burn under my righteous fury. Well, the bit with Konami in it, anyway.

Most techincal support for games sucks to high hell. "Heavy Metal: FAKK 2 doesn't work properly. The patch doesn't solve my problem. What should I do?" Their response? "Install the patch." What the fuck? You crazy morons.

BGnE rocks, incidentally. I've nearly finished it and its officially one of the greatest games ever. I have it for the Gamecube, which means the water effects look a little nicer. Fantastic. Jade is strangely attractive too. Hmm.

I read your livejournal. And you appear to still be drunk.

Trust me, this is an entirely new drunk. The last drunk wore off and I got another one.

What? Are you suggesting that Jade isn't hot? Granted, it's not your -normal- hot. But she's hot nonetheless.

I loved BGnE. A tad on the short side, but fun enough that I've been meaning to go back and do a speed run.

Weird. I never had any problems like that with MGS2.

And Konami has some really talented programmers. You could say otherwise, but that would be largely false. ;)

Not quite talented enough, obviously.

EDIT: Actually, yeah, they suck.

geronimo

i think it can probably be attributed to the disgustingly sloppy way PC's have developed

Very profound statement there.

Wow, what an extreme, false statement.

The fact is, they're good at making what they do work on a console but what's the point of converting it for the PC if they only do a half-arsed job? The directory structure is all over the place, resources are in a hundred and one different files and they can't even be bothered to set it up to run acceptably if you've just got a keyboard and mouse: I bought a pad to play THIS game. Does that seem right to you?

And the maximum install is HUMONGEOUS. 7gb?! Have they heard of optimisation? UT2k4 is huge and THAT's only 5gb. The graphics and general length of the game don't even justify this. It's a great game when it works but the whole package is so lazily put together that my only conclusion is that Konami's PC department comprises of a group of genetically enhanced, crack-fuelled rhesus monkeys.

7gb? I honestly think that the best way to deal with Konami programmers (who are useless scum, by the way), is to herd them onto a small island and nuke it. No one can argue that this wouldn't benefit mankind in general.

NO! We herd them onto a small island and threaten them with nukes until they patch their bloody games. THEN we nuke them.

The thing is, they make games primarily for the PS2, which has no support for texture compression or DX9 funkiness or the like. The PC does, only Konami know jack proverbial in respect to how to implement it. The result? Well, it's not exactly John Carmack, is it?

Console games were never meant to be played on PCs anyway.

It would also benefit mankind if ignorant people who have zero respect for the work programmers put into their games were herded onto such an island. ^_~

I shall take this one step further and say that no game should ever, EVER, be for both PC and console. No exceptions. Well, KotOR. That's one exception. But its just becuase they did such an exceptional job, damnit. But other than that I have seen no games that really work on both platforms.

If it meant that Konami programmers could no longer inflict their ineptness on the world, I would gladly make the sacrifice. And in our last moments on the island together, I would enjoy immensely telling them exactly what I think of them, and informing them of their impending fate. I would then watch with satisfaction as they scurried around panicing, like the worthless insects they are, desperately praying for deliverance from the approaching B-52 and its payload of divine justice...

SEE YOU IN HELL YOU INCOMPETENT BASTARDS!

There are some games that are worthy of a PC port and others that are simply inappropriate. Why the hell didn't Konami release MGS2 for the 'Cube as a port to co-incide with the Twin Snakes remake? THAT would be rocking cool. It just beggars belief that they stuck it on the PC and, furthermore, is an indescribably bad port. If you're going to port a game, port it to something worthwhile at the very least.

And there's nothing wrong with GOOD PC conversions of console games, just so long as a PC audience can appreciate it and changes are made to fit the controls onto the target platform appropriately.

I finally got around to playing KotOR. It's pretty sweet, except I hate tutorials at the beginning the bore the hell out of me, so I never got out of the first room.

*Games that work on both platforms:
Any game for the PC (just buy a gamepad)
Any games except FPS and RTS games for consoles (I don't know what the status of keyboards and mice for consoles are)

* This opinion is based purely on my experience as a PC gamer, being that my console gaming is limited to over 10 years ago, aside from a brief Dreamcast binge back in the 70's
