Now I'm not going to whine about it, and by all means laugh and say I deserved it. But I would like an explanation. He had a post about intelligence and language, etc. And I offered what I thought were intelligent comments and insights. Apparently this was not the case, and now no one else will benefit from my posts either. I want to know why.

Also McGrue, if you delete/ban this post too, the verge community may as well say goodbye to any further work on VOpenCHR and I will most likely not look favorably on this community again. I'm saying this now so that YOU at least have a notification of why I left should you decide to be an asshole further. It's not like I was posting political stuff for God's sake.

Intriguing.

  1. Why do you think I banned you?
  2. Why do you seem to think it was unjust?

Its grue's personal LJ, its not an extension of this site. The two have nothing to do with the other.

Also.... I mean.... really, if you're going to get banned from something, can you really think of anything better than McGrue's personal diary? Shit, I would be so lucky.

Ok let me make sure I read this correctly

Cliffs:
1) Tom banned from Grue's livejournal
2) Tom feels this is gravely unjust and would deprive others of his wisdom
3) Tom threatens to stop work on VOpenCHR unless he is unbanned?

Is that about right?

Edit: 3) Tom threatens top stop work on VOpenCHR if Grue deletes this thread! My bad.
I doubt that would happen, this is going to be an awesome thread.

;___; This is what happens when I don't read from my LiveJournal friends list for one day... Also, Grue must have deleted TomT64's entries! :{. Apparently, they *were* once here. I didn't know it was possible to come up with offensive stuff regarding thoughts about language and interacting, or at least other than downright flaming. o__0.

I would presume, knowing Grue and his love of all things horribly offensive, that it wasn't offensive so much as annoying.

I really can only think that it was because I posted 3 times, even though they were all in response to various things. However banned seems a bit extreme. Why the hell didn't he just delete them. I didn't feel like writing that twice.

Anyway, yes, they're gone. Within 5 minutes of posting. And of course if you saw them you wouldn't see what was wrong with them, so yeah I think it was unjust. Deleting them IMO is a matter of his choice. But banning me is extreme and offensive. I've posted before in his journal (haven't I?). I was discussing the matter just like everyone else. So it's at the very least confusing. Still is. I still don't get it.

And yeah Toen, you got it. I don't care particularly if I'm unbanned, but just deleting this thread seemed to be 'in character' with the McGrue of the time, since nothing really made sense about it. As for my wisdom, that is largely up to you to decide, and McGrue robbed you of THAT chance.

Also I swear I said nothing offensive. So again, I DON'T GET IT. So I still want a direct answer to why.

Any reason you have for banning me is clearly a stupid reason. Since you didn't want others to see my posts, I won't even discuss what they were here. I didn't want to write them twice anyway, so you could have just deleted them. So it's unjust because it's an extreme reaction to non objectionable text.

It's not really unjust for him to ban somebody from his journal. It's not like he's violating some inalienable right of yours or something.

Also I can't fathom why you're making a big deal out of this. It's grue's livejournal. You will live. The sun will still rise in the morning. I promise.

Ok unjust is perhaps not the right word based on your usage. However, what I wrote (content wise, since it served the discussion and was similar to what others were saying), or the volume of what I wrote, was not a very reasonable reason for banning me, IMO. I mean, disagree, or delete my posts if you don't like what I write, that's reasonable. Banning seems extreme for a first time offense (especially when it wasn't an offense!).

Okay, TomT64, you gotta get over this. If McGrue wants to ban you from egometry, let him. It's not a big deal. On the Internet there is no such thing as 'justice'. If I got banned from someone's LiveJournal I'd lol and move on. I mean, it's probably not like your life revolves arond reading about someone elses' lives. Also, if it was something that really mattered so much, you could have used email and asked him personally what offended him, so to avoid an almost emo looking thread :D. Email is your best friend.

McGrue, just tell the guy what he did wrong. Guessing games aren't fun. You don't need to tell him anything, but you know, it might be nice so that some people (mainly TomT64) don't hold grudges or something.

I actually find it inspiring that, despite this misunderstanding, people really care what other people's lives are like.

Anybody besides me feel a group hug coming on?

Also, McGrue. I thought the same thing once about the use of language as a medium for thought. One of my ideas was that language was not the purest medium for transport of thought, but merely an abstraction. The actual process of human thought, is determined by experience. Thus, even if you cannot express something in language, you can still communicate via experience.

Which is to say, any summary of your events, and your resulting feelings or reflecting thoughts upon it (this summary would presumably be in the form of an experience literally imposed upon another person), would be equally sufficient as an actual verbal expression of those experiences and thoughts. Language allows us to communicate the experience/thought/idea to someone else, but two people who literally share the same experience/thought/idea do not necessarily need language to communicate it.

This could also be argued that if individual humanity can ever be broken down and reassembled into one giant superconsciousness, then communication by language would not be needed, since by logic we would already share the same experience, ideas, and feelings, since humanity would already be one sentient being. I haven't seen Evangelion but I hear they do that whole 'breaking down of individuality' thing near the end of the series.

So. Comments?

Zip

The end of evangelion (and the End of Evangelion) horrid things are.

Some compression format

I know what you mean! *hug*

Also, I still want to know what the reason McGrue banned him was! I mean... this is like a little soap opera, it's as if they broke up or something.

Alright, Grue filled me. I'm not exactly sure what to say... um... but um... tom, I wouldn't worry about Grue banning you ... from his livejournal.

TomT64

Um, he filled you?

anyway... yeah.. he's not ever going to tell me. And oh well. I had to say something because it just seemed like it was an asshole move, yet I didn't think that quite explained it. I didn't think I said anything objectionable at all so I was a bit concerned that this was the beginning of Grue perhaps hating me and I thought that could have much broader problems than livejournal.

Also Omni, considering YOU aren't banned, why didn't you just post your language comment in his journal?
