Hey, so you can draw! Nice stuff! Any plans to actually work on some games sometime?

I smell deadly sacarsm. :P

The art I posted are all pretty experimental; I'm trying to expand my art by taking on different styles and such.. Maybe I should do more regular/mainstream art to build up my "portfolio" of sorts. Hmm. I need a fucking tablet.

But anyways, I'm alrady on Alex's team for Midsummer, but generally no one wants me in their production teams T_T;

Fuck, you don't HAVE a tablet? That all LOOKS like tablet work! I really do like your style. I need to put a lot more practice in to really get to grips with computer art properly (you can check my LiveJournal for one or two of my attempts).

What software do you use? Photoshop? PSP? Illustraitor? And, more importantly, how the heck do you get that clean, crisp quality: especially with those grey areas, like the bus stop scene?

I tend to use Photoshop, with a fucking HUGE work area (usually A3). I start with a white background, add a layer to that and draw on the new layer. Then I add colour and clearer lines etc. on individual layers above that, ie: I have one layer for skin highlights, one for midtones and another for shadows etc. Allows for a greater deal of control that way :-).

Um no. I HAVE a tablet, but it runs on AAAA batteries and it died. So those are ALL tablet products. Except "fieldstand", which is mousework. I was actually able to produce works near to those standards when I had a mouse, but I couldn't do line width variation since mouse has no pressure sensitivity. Now that my AAAA battery is dead, and I can't find AAAA batteries, my tablet is dead. I will use it as a tea table.

And also, I use Corel Paint, which is a pretty damn good program. I never resize my stuff, so I start pretty small. My computer is weak. It slows down whenever I have a big canvass. :)

And you want to know the secret of my technique? MWAHAHAHAHA. I'll get back to you when I go home. :D I'm glad you took notice of the clean-ness in my art (although the lineart is sketchy), because I wanted to give a feeling of simplicity, but also more dimension so I added on the grey shadows. :) Ahhh. You've made me very happy.

Will be home in a couple of hours.

Ah, well my PC is capable but by no means to of the range:

+ AMD Duron 1.3ghz
+ 512mb DDR RAM
+ 40gb and 6gb hard drives (God knows what the RPMs are..)
+ 128mb Radeon 8500
+Packard Bell Pressure sensitive graphics tablet (crap, but passable)
+ Some random Soundblaster soundcard (needs replacing, not totally XP compatible and makes an irritating buzzing noise.. Hrm)

I run at a resolution of 1024x768 at 32bit.

I draw very large so I can get some detail in: my tablet isn't very good at drawing small stuff, kind of like sketching with a hammer and chisel.

Obviously Troupe has the memory of a goldfish, for I have already informed him of this at least once.

Ok, for those areas it's actually a little trick. I set 3 layers : Background, Shadow (gray areas) and Lineart.

The background is totally white, and I draw on the Lineart layer. Then, I use black to fill in the WHOLE Shadow layer, and I reduce its transparency to say, 30%. This gives it a nice faded gray and allows you to see the line art.

Then I use the freewand selection (or whatever it is) to select the areas I want light/highlighted and CTRL+X, cut them out which gives way to the white Background layer.

This technique is actually a reverse of what most artists do; they usually just fill in the shadows but judging where their light source is. This is filling in the light source areas.. little difference but just a reverse process that's quite interesting to me.

Right, you can see that greydawn.gif in my folder is the first time I tried this technique, and bus stop was my second try at it. I liked it very much :D

I'm well aware of Arias' involvement in Midsummer. I just haven't seen any actual work for the game from him. Of course, I haven't seen any work from myself for Midsummer in quite a while. Sorry ;_;

There some good tutorials here!

...and an activate board here, created by Tsugumo. (though I believe it's currently going through a bit of a dip)

Both dedicated to Art created pixel by pixel!

I think in the distant past these two community sets where less disjoint! I'm sure as Verge picks up there may once again be some crossover :)
