Playing music also does help a lot, I forgot about that, but I am drummer, so I guess you don't want me to write any more songs for Midsummer

More? I *still* haven't got the last ones. ;)

Anyway, you're a drummer? I don't understand why someone who understands music would want to forgo actually making music in favour of hitting things with sticks, which any knuckle-dragging genetic throwback can do (no offence :)). Except Phil Collins, he's a good drummer even though he also suffers greatly from Drummerscantwritesongs Syndrome.
You must play an actual musical instrument too though, right?

Errr, oh yeah. Hey! I am busy with compo! Leave me alone, meenie... ;_;

Yes, I am a drummer. Drumming is the highest form of music, because you must produce good sounding things with bad sounding things. OR SOMETHING. kayo! ~^_^~

OK, I am now back on track. I do also play guitar, bass, and piano, but I play drums mostly. Although drummers actually have to know a lot about stuff to be good. Wow, I am not in a coherent mood. SRYPPLZ.

In summation, I will say that I like drums.

I've been at this for a while now, and I have to say I've gotten pretty picky about what I will and will not use.

In terms of graphics, Photoshop is king. I used to use 5.5 for everything, but oddly enough I switched to Elements a while back (look at me, I'm legal) and found it to be, well, bloody awesome for the price. Which was nothing, since it came with my tablet. I've tried working in PSP, but after using each of them for similar large-scale projects (PSP version who-knows-what and Photoshop 6, both used to make book covers), I found Photoshop to be a little more powerful and to yield generally better results. As far as filters go, I couldn't say. I avoid filters like the plague :)

Other than that, I do the occasional sketch in Painter. I've heard wonderful things about OpenCanvas, but I haven't had the pleasure yet.

As far as music goes, it's amazing what you can do with Impulse Tracker (which earns itself its own Windows 98 partiton on my computer). I've tried ModPlug, but never really liked how it handled things. There's another tracker I've been playing with a bit, but the name escapes me. Not Renoise, though I've played with that a bit too and found it fairly nice, but not nice enough.

Oh, and anyone who tells you that Gimp can do anything Photoshop can should be shot. I'll admit that PSP is almost worthy, but ask anyone who's even thought about doing professional work in Gimp and they'll tell you they'd rather give Adobe their firstborn.

Impulse Tracker

cleanup and post-processing in MPT, if necessary..

Used Buzz, Fruity Loops and Renoise a little, but IT is best for one such as myself.

Fun!

I used to use Fast Tracker 2, but then Zathras converted me to Impulse.

Overall I prefer IT over FT2, except for it's lack of Nibbles.
Of course... I probally get more music done without nibbles.

Experimented with Rebirth, Buzz, Fruity Loops.

Cool Edit Pro is definetly handy for post processing,
and recording samples for tracks.

Correction:
*Highly coordinated* knuckle-dragging genetic throwback. ;)

Besides, everyone and their uncle has a guitar.
Like my Elvis Impersonator uncle who taught me how to play.

Yeh, the good ones. Still, I'd rather have a drum machine than a drummer. Hell, I'd rather have syphilis than a drummer, but needs must...

EDIT: Actually I don't hate drummers really, I've just had to endure a bad one. But I stand by my assertion that they can't write proper songs.

I'd like to be...

...in the shade.

Alex, your assertion is uneducated and preposterous. Most drummers can play regular instruments anyway. Regardless, I am a drummer and I am writing songs for your game. Therefore you are insulting the quality of the music in your own game. You fail.

Hypno is right, drumming is far more difficult than you would imagine. Also, you are a loser. jkiluvualexkthxbai

Damn, that's two accusations of uneducatedness and counting... :)

No, playing the harp is difficult, playing the drums is not. If you have rhythm you can play drums. And even if you haven't got rhythm you can make a pretty good go of it. Anyway, I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about people whose sole ability is to play drums, and yet persist in thinking they're some kind of musician because of this.

The only good thing about being in an Octopus's Garden is the likely lack of drummers down there. NAME ME A GOOD SONG WRITTEN BY A DRUMMER.

I have joined a marching band and I'm playing the bass drum for a performance in a couple of weeks.

Not because of any intense desire to beat a drum but the Keeping The Band Walking On The Beat aspect is cool, and three of my family members are all responsible for the cadences. Since we all have the same wiring (more or less) we have the same sense of rhythm. ;)

Many things in life are probably grander, but meshing a beat with your mom and sister while ambling around a high school track is pretty entertaining.

We were considering a marching band performing SotS music last night on IRC. Possible? Please discuss.

Dunno about THIS marching band, they're all kinda... picky. And I'm a brand new member. But maybe once I've gained some sway it may be possible. :)

But, yeah.. having a concert band play some Astrad-type music would be fun. Gotta have strings, though :P

Actually I quite like Octopus's Garden, but it's an easy target to prove my point.

We would shout, and swim about,
the coral that lies beneath the waves,
(lies beneath the ocean waves)

The man's a complete lunatic.

I suppose strings are a necessity. But that's the beauty of it. You would have to give the strings to the saxes or something. It would be difficult, but excellent.
