Yes. I hate hearing this question, since if you read around the forums, and actually inspect the files section, it will answer your question (Yes, there is tools and all the stuff you'll need out there somewhere.). However, you may want to wait until V3 gets a full release.
Also, I've already answered a similar question, [ here ].

Gah, I really need to create an easily-accessible [getting started] section and permanently fix it in the sidebar.

I'm a little surprised... I thought newbies to Verge were a thing of the past.

I'm sure we'll see a flood of newbies once V3 is released. Newbies are a good thing though, as the V1 community was thriving with them and those were some of the greatest days community-wise. ;)

As do I. We've never ceased getting new hits, but for the last several years we've not retained them. This is due to not being very newbie friendly... they all go to RPGMaker.
And remember kids, cut'n'paste RPGs make baby vecna cry.

MUAHAHAHA
That said, I meant no disrespect to newbies. It's great as long as they RTFM (after there is one). Also, I think I'll do tutorials (once we have tools).

I'm not a noob anymore right? Someone in #Verge once told me you had to be in the community 4 years before you were considered a l337 veteran. I've been here since 2000, so I'm a vet right? ...Right?
Besides, all the oldbies become jaded bastards (*cough*ear*cough*) and don't help anyone. It takes newbies to make newbies...

Ear's not even a verger, is he? ;)
you stop being a noob in my book the day you release something that's awesome.

I think a lot of unfavorable issues come about when people in a community such as this one start talking of terms like 'noob' and 'vet'. I've seen so many projects on the net fail because their community disintigrates as a few self-important jerks refuse to even acknowlege the existance of anyone they consider a 'noob'. I think the most hillarious thing about it is that there are thousands of people out there that get their kicks by going to a project, visciously throttling it of all life, and then proclaiming after a year that they are a 'vet', and assault anyone new that is trying to get information about said project. Oh, you know the type I'm talking about, because you see them often on several projects at once - and no matter where you go, they are still a 'vet'. It's simply an evolved (devolved?) form of a high-school clique, and I really think Verge can do better than that. From what I've seen over the years, it's done a pretty damn good job so far, mostly because I don't think this community tolerates a true ass.
Let's nip this in the bud before it even starts.

Just based on my experience, when I first started Ear gave me a really hard time. He's not around anymore I suppose, but he was always in #vchelp back in the day. A lot of people in that channel were just really "self-important jerks" that I think discouraged a lot of people. I was just kidding with my first post, I put no stock in how long a person has been in a community, I judge them by their character/the work the produce. I agree with you on all counts Zod.

Well, as god-king of #vergehelp, if I find anyone roughing up the newbies I'll be beating them with a sitck. Quite possibly Toen's stick, for Toen has a stick.
As for earlier comments, I also frown upon shouts of "rtfm!!!!1" directed to the young ones. rtfm is only to be used against people that are around long enough to know better. ;)
Instead, when someone you don't know asks a simple question, we shall all go: "Why, my good sir, here is the answer to your question (insert kind answer here). In addendum, I think you should read vergedoc.txt. It lives at: " and then we'll give the address of the documentation.
...or something.

Heh, and before you get too happy, Ear is still around. :D He pops up like a gopher to give some random obscure bug he found while hex editing verge and then disappears again. You'll never know when he will strike.

I have no intention of throttling newbies or telling them RTFM. Actually, rtfm is useless, since it's only a function reference, to the newbie.
I'll tell them to RTF Tutorials once they exist heh.

We need more newbies!! I was around Verge since the Genesis - Revelations and the Saga of the Stars *cough*McGrue*cough* days.. During those days and for a year or two forwards there were always newbies (who got constantly flamed)!
We had new projects popping out like Cyberwizards.. etc.. all vaporware (*cough*fantasy realms*cough*) but in the recent 2 years, the message boards seems to be populated by a buch of stinkin same old poops. I'd check frequently but messages were sometimes posted once a month, and some were just some smartass comments with (nt) replies. It's actually amazing to see newbies to Verge. Almost unbelieveable!
God, it's like seeing strangers at your house.. I say 90% of the Verge community now is made up of the oldies. I mean, look at how you guys behave on the boards :D
Newbies excite me. :D
