Grue, this post made me register (finally).
And yes, Verge really appears to be dead (so many links not working & no updates, especially the docs), I really picked the best engine for my first coding experiment ever (and I'm doing it in VC because I'm afraid of being even more confused with lua). D:

I don't know how to make the docs better anymore. The time when I was close enough to a neophyte to know what a new, eager coder needs to know are long gone. :(
Any suggestions?

So I recently did a post about this that I deleted - Grue knows about it - and I honestly think that the best thing would be to do the verge manual, but with Lua.
When I first started using verge, the docs were basically just here's this function, here's what it does, here's how you implement it in your code.
Right now that's obviously there for v3, but the docs for the transition just say "here's basically how it works, and then study the Lua manual if you have questions."
The problem is that that's not how it works and if I wanted to learn Lua, I'd learn Lua. Honestly, if there was just documentation for how to use each included vc function in lua verge, I think it would be much less confusing. It seems simple and almost redundant, but it'll help.

I just had a thought. I want to be Facebook friends with Choris and Shadow64. And probably other people. Or at least I want to interact with them through something I use more than once every 3 years. The idea of VERGE-as-forum-community is dead to me. I want to know about REAL LIFE. Can we facilitate that somehow? VERGE Facebook group? Emailish groupish thing? I dunno, something. Tristan and I were just browsing old VERGE threads and I miss some dudes, but I don't think the forums are a very reliable form of communication (and I'm too inconsistent with AIM/IRC). Honestly between all of us here we could probably make awesome shit as far as games go -- or at least I could hang out with VERGErs whenever the band goes on tour to their city. Just want to know what's up with my peeps.
OR SOMETHING. Maybe I'm the only one who still cares ;_;

It's a fun idea, Troupe, but you caught me at a pretty funny time. I JUST deactivated my facebook account about a month ago.
If you want to know what I'm up to, I have a tumblr and otherwise I have a twitter account, but that's more for following than cross communication really.
I still care, but I'm also working on learning C# now, instead of sticking with VC/Lua. I'm trying to make games for release on XBLIG to maybe make some extra money and just...get better at programming.
I'm totally into making this community alive again, as far as the boards go and even though I haven't been posting (nothing to show for it yet), I will if I see something to respond to (like this).

Seriously though I just popped in because I am working on a new game (for Android) and was looking at my old games. I see that Intense Flight is still in the downloads here. It's so buggy! Still somewhat fun though. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the other Verge games (or more like demos) I made on my hard drive anymore, might've been lost on some other computer during some disk crash or other long time ago. :(
I do have a bunch of my ika games left though, although the ika website is completely dead now. (When visiting their website I only get a MySQL error.)
Man, such old memories, and now I'm working on making a game again, makes me feel a bit nostalgic. :) (Last 5 years or so I've been focusing more on playing video games rather than trying to make them.)

Hey guys... Nice to meet all of you...
Let me tell you something. I have been following the development of Verge since i was 15 year old. Believe it or not, you guys reeeally inspire me to make great games. All of you made me realize that even a kid like me can make games if I try hard enough. V3 documentation and Rysen's Tutorial taught me so much about basics of programming. Hey, now I even majoring in Computer Science because of that. I offer my sincere gratitude to all of you who taught me indirectly.
I visited this site every once in a while to see how much Verge progress. I don't know why, but today I registered into this site for the first time and try to say hi for all of you. I feel rather sad when I read above posts, and I thought I will share some of my thought here.
Now, I am currently trying to understand various programming language and platform in game development, such as C#, Java, and Android. Sometimes, I am just thinking, is there any way to make Verge a cross-platform RPG engine?...
I am just hoping that we could do something to prevent this community from dying.

There are still some of us working on things, we're just not particularly noisy about it here on the site. (Sadly.) We're still here though... seeing new things is the easiest way to flush us out and get some feedback. ;)

But in all seriousness, I am right this moment working on a tool to actually make building Verge games a bit nicer (and more accessible to any platforms that Verge itself runs on). I'm building it with the intent of turning around and building a game immediately after. Hopefully I'll be making noise about both of these projects in the next few weeks/months.
Are you up to anything, lucernae?

Lua is good, but what about Java? it is object oriented and multi platform, (maybe it can be implemented on Android....)
