mm. I was just reading his ancient V2 tutorial awhile ago.

I'm pretty dumb about programming and VCC in general, but I know aen's been putting out some nice stuff. I hope he comes back fine.

Well I got a call from loretian (who is in the process of moving and doesn't have internet) who said that the latest on aen is that the bleeding has stopped and his platelet count is returning to normal (still elevated but not nearly so much), and basically is doing much better. He's still in intensive care though, and I guess they're trying to assess now 1) wtf happened and 2) whether or not any sort of long term damage was done. I'll let you guys know when I hear more.

That's good to hear. Let's hope no long term damamge was done. We need him fully able so he can make more incredibly awesome utilities :)

It'd be awesome if he was paralysed so they had to install one of those braincomputer interfaces and over time his consciouness spread out over the internet and aen became our supreme global digital overlord.

Totally awesome.

@_@; As scary as something like that sounds....I'm compelled to agree with its awesomeness factor.

That's great news about aen. Thanks for keeping us informed vec. :)

Maybe he had Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever? If so, he's lucky he survived...

It's from a mosquito-born virus that made it's way from Asia to the Americas 1985. It is apparently making a reimmergence in the US (though you probably won't hear about it over the deadly west nile virus ;) ).

The virus causes all of the symptoms mentioned.
Someone should ask him if he also had these additional symptoms: Severe bone and joint pain, nausea, fever, shock

Here's a little info about the virus:

Symptoms: Incubation is 3 to 15 days, most common is 5 to 6 days) Fever, chilly sensation, Severe headache, Nausea, severe bone and joint pain, hepatomegaly, internal bleeding and shock.

Morbidity:
Infects approximately 1 million people per year, 15% of the infections progress into Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). 50% of those don't survive.

Transmission:
Dengue is an arbovirus that is transmitted by Aedes aegypti. All infections are from a mosquito vector. There was no threat of the virus in the United States until 1985 when a shipment of tires from Japan that contained stagnant water harboring the larvae of the Asian Tiger Mosquito which could withstand frost (which A. aegypti could not) and carry the virus.

Oh yeah... Arkansas is one of 15 states where the virus has been found...

It is my current theory that aen's present pain originates from the fact that he is hospitalized, and fucking Doom 3 was just released.

Once the doctors realize this, I am sure recovery will be a simple and speedy process.

OK, I just spoke with Chuck's dad.

His platelet count has completely returned to normal (it was too low before, at one point as low as 2,000, when it should be around 250,000). He should be leaving the intensive care unit tomorrow, and possibly even return home later. He's still extremely tired and his body is recovering, but he's not in any major pain anymore and is even able to talk a little, though it sounds like he's still pretty weak.

If you want to send any get well cards, please send them too:

He'll definitely appreciate it.

Good to hear he's doing a little better. It's all bloody scary.

Maybe none of us would be here if it weren't for him (not to undermine vecna, of course -- but aen's done a lot for us), and a lot of us have known him for a long time, if only over the internet.

My prayers are still with him.

Some of us are 'older' than aen, but he was definitly the largest positive force of the Middle Kingdom of VERGE! :)
