You have one, andy has one, needle has one, etc. I WANT ONE. GIVE ME THIS COVETED ABILITY!

I think Grue is handing out avatars right now...

Basically, you gotta do something cool before he gives you one.

As was stated in the readme for the general forum, I'd like to add.

Andy also has one mainly because he has 500 posts in the archives and I was trying to see what a thread would look like with a lot of various avatars in it (namely the diver down thread).

At any rate, user-uploaded avatars will come later. Don't worry.

I will have to wait, I guess... Even though I *did* help you out with files as well... (previously "farmerbob" before the site update)

You should let us have our own, even if we must provide a link, not an upload.

Edit: I read this:

Don't whine about getting an avatar until you've either helped me significantly in fixing up the site, or have released a neat v3 demo.

I understand, as long as you are giving the avatars out, how this would be a problem. But if we can make or link our own, that takes the work off you doesn't it?

I am not willing at this time to redo the infrastructure required to properly implement an avatar system. Also, Avatars will not be an automatic right-of-membership, but instead be a low-level award of the merit system... part of me being very stingy with avatars presently is so I don't hear whining when the merit system comes up and the avatars go away.

It's OK, since there's a work around... Just add < img > tags to your signature.

Huge images in signatures is a surefire way to get on my Shitlist. You have been warned.

i'll second that.

In the merit system outline documentation, having annoying images in your signaturs is one of the first things listed as a possible Demerit.

Keep it small and classy, I'd say. no more than 150x85. If this becomes an issue, I can easily remove html formatting in signatures.

Also, classy is the key word there.

My mistake. OK, I'll remove it. I'll replace it with something around 16x32 size, as opposed to my 320x200. I don't want to be a flame target, so I'll just toss it out.

It would have been nice if you put the maximum allowed size beside the signature field, so that I would have known...

Signatures are intented to be text, mainly... I just was too lazy to make a seperate html parser for them. Besides, I'm not fully against them, just mostly ;)

OK. You don't happen to oppose this now do you? I demonstrate my mad pixel skillz. It's small, and only 1 KB -- only until I can get a real avatar.

Alright. Even if you don't like it, merit for a picture sig doesn't affect a person *too* much, right?

Thats not too annoying. :) The site is still in developmental phases, which is why things like this arent necessarily spelled out yet in the sig field yet. We did feel the new site was, even in its incomplete site, better than the old one tho, which is why we went live.

I think "banner" type (wide, short) sigs would be ok, but yeah, the 320x200 thing was a bit much. ^_^

I'm against linked avatars if they can be avoided. Nothing like having to connect to 30 different websites to drag page loading.

JESUS CHRIST NO.

Anigif avatars (or sigpics) are downright Satanic.

Please gayo, remember where you are.

That's Stanic.

I hope everyone likes my signature, since it was made of love.
