I'm not sure that "great" is the best word to described this thread.

this thread will be legendary. Let's not lose umph however!

speaking of Ham... I put a ham radio in my cousin's - friend's truck a couple of weeks ago....

Pinky meat, so sweat to eat
Most corpselike flesh
Among the food groups
Lord of Lunchmeat
King of Coldcuts
Sultan of Sidemeat
I am the ham, I cover all

I was dazzled by this poem, but I'm afraid that in proper Mortal Kombat fashion, you are going to need to change that to King of Koldcuts.

Alex:

Your attempts to kill this thread have failed.
You have (2) lives remaining.

This thread shall be legendary.

Though I walk through the shadow of the valley of death, I shall fear no evil. For the Ham is at hand, and with it I am a holy vessel. Delivering a message, for the Lord our Ham.

EAT MOR HAM!

You excel at artifical thread-length extension. At this rate, we shall reach 15 pages in no time at all.

Let us start up another controversial issue to add more posts.
I shall begin:

I HATE REPUBLICANS

Posted on 2004-05-03 17:56:23

loretian

But we like you.

Posted on 2004-05-03 18:01:33

mcgrue

I hate anyone and everyone who brings up politics on the internet.

Posted on 2004-05-03 18:15:34

loretian

Unlike McGrue, I'm all for discussing politics.

Political discussions, as we've proven on this board already, don't have to devolve into flamewars, and what other reason for avoiding them is there?

Regardless, I state again, we Republicans LOVE EVERYONE! Unless you happen to be terrorist. Then we hate you.

Alex

ATTEMPT NUMBER TWO

It is not possible to hate people who bring up politics more than people who exchange remarks like "I liek ham", "yes, I like ham too", "ham rocks!", and suchlike simply in order to get a thread up to 300 posts. Our grandfathers fought and died for our freedom, which includes freedom of speech. And this is how we abuse that freedom? For shame, gentlemen.

If you have any respect for the sacrifices made by those brave people, then let us exercise our right to say what we want by saying WORTHY THINGS and not drivelling meaningless nonsense. For it is now, after about a month, painfully evident to even the dimmest among us, that EVERYONE LIKES HAM.

EDIT: I am all for discussing politics too, as politics has nothing to do with ham. And it is interesting. And it allows me to vent my extreme hatred of Tony Blair.

Grue: I just said that to stir up controversy. Obviously, it was a success.

Lore: I absolutely agree. The political discussions on this board are by far the most mature I've seen. There's really no problem with discussing politics online if the group discussing is mature enough to handle it.

Alex: Once more, you attempt was a failure. Here's why:
Our forefathers did indeed fight and die for freedom of speech. However, your forefathers are the ones that killed them.

Posted on 2004-05-04 01:45:38

Alex

However, your forefathers are the ones that killed them.

Troupe, none of my forefathers have ever killed any Americans. The thing about the British and the Americans is that they tend to be on the same side in wars nowadays. And even thenadays. So it is highly unlikely that my forefathers killed any of your forefathers. More's the pity. :)

EDIT: So it appears that my second attempt was not a failure after all! Hurrah!

I think Troupe was refering to the American Revolution... you know where america gained independance from British rule?

Posted on 2004-05-04 03:44:37

Troupe

Yes, that's the one. We fought for freedom from your country, and now you are just allying with us because we are the greatest nation on the face of the planet.

Alex

Ohhh... your independence thing. I was referring to WW2. You know, one of the important wars? Hence my mention of freedom of speech. :D

And no, we're allying with you because our Prime Minister has no spine. Oh, and because it's right. :)
Here ends my [entirely disgraceful] xenophobic outburst for today.

we are the greatest nation on the face of the planet

Troupe, I'd like to finish on a quote, just for you:

said by:H. W. Beecher

Conceited men are a harmless kind of creature, who, by their overweening self-respect, relieve others from the duty of respecting them at all.

pwnd.

How's this for controversy and free speech:
Alex, I think you suck your momma's titties.

Posted on 2004-05-04 05:00:41

Alex

Yeah? Then how's this for another quote:

said by: Henry Fielding

There is an insolence which none but those who themselves deserve contempt can bestow, and those only who deserve no contempt can bear.

Pwnd again.
Damn, I'm on quote fire!

Personally, I bear no ill will toward my friends across the pond. On this thread, at least, they are in fact our superiors. We have a holiday dedicated to turkey. They have towns and football teams named after ham.

Moreover, if we are to dislike them for what their forefathers may or may not have done, let's look at the fact that Thanksgiving celebrates a time when some real Americans helped us through some lean times... right before we stole nearly their entire country, killed off most of their people, and shoved what few were left onto land we didn't want at the time, much of which we since have decided we in fact do want.

The past is to be learned from, not held against someone. I'm pretty sure one of my ancestors has killed one of each of your ancestors, if we go back far enough. Sorry, by bad.

I'm perfectly at ease with the fact that people may hate me because of where I'm from. Everyone should be. After all, the world was built on historical malice! Without fifteen hundred years of constant warfare, I would have no reason to hate everyone from the rest of Europe, and then what would I do with my spare time? ;)
Seething hate is how things work. People despise each other, and the world spins around. Where's the problem?
