As of the latest version 0.9.34 of wine, Verge3 does not appear to run in Wine. (Verge crashes with "vid_bpp(24) not a standard value") I've submitted a bug report on WineHQ and hopefully the issue will be resolved

A linux port would probably require some amount of coding. The Mac port uses SDL for video/sound/window management, which would work fine in linux. Parts that are not handled by SDL would need to be rewritten or adapted (eg. dialog boxes, network code, runtime vc reloading UI.) Most of the work would likely be separating the Mac code into mac-specific and unix-specific, because the linux port could share the latter but not the former. Please ask in the forums or via email if you'd like more information about this.

what would be involved in a linux port? would it just involve recompiling the code using linux libraries or would some serious coding be needed?

Hopefully there'll be some macintosh-enabled dev tools shortly. A testing demo is soon to be delivered to the Hall of Admins.

If verge 3 uses any specifically DirectX 9 calls, then the current wine will not support it. However, there IS a chance it works if the calls are DirectX 7 or 8.

Does anyone know if there's been any success running V3 in something like wine?
