All bitmaps within the engine are stored in 24 bit format (even if loaded from a palletted image file). In windowed mode, verge should run fine at 16 or 32 bit, and fullscreen will try for 32 bit, and may fail depending on the resolution set by the game and your video card drivers. If you have an error message when trying to run a game, try to run in windowed mode instead.
